My kids have uncommon names and they are spelled correctly as well. Growing up as Jessica made sure of that. I get called Jennifer all the time.

it may be common around the country....but we hardly ever hear of any other ones....she has always been the only one in her class/grade.

It is. I was named after Eve Arden from "Our Miss Brooks" even though the TV show ended 9 years before I was born.

My mother is Eva, as was her mother. Ev ah not Eve ah.

My name's verrrry common, but it's CONSTANTLY misspelled (and often mispronounced surprisingly) it's Caitlin, i get Katelyn, Kaitlin, Katelynn Catelin, any variation of that, and a lot of times people pronounce it Cat-lin. When I lived in Quebec I got "Cath-leen" as the pronunciation a lot with French people.

I have no kids as yet, but I love old names that are rarely used anymore.
For a boy I love Silas (it's my grandpathers middle name) and for a girl I love Cora or Clara. I am deadset on Cora but DBF doesn't like it

We liked Siobhan for DD18, but we figured, since we live in Indiana, she'd forever be Si-ob-han instead of Shu-van in pronounciation.

Instead, she is Sara Emily, and goes by Emily or Emi. BTW, Sara not Sarah is the proper spelling.

When deciding on baby names, I thought we had a unique name. I when I think of how proud we were. I swear, the only Aiden I had ever heard of was John Corbet on Sex and the City. Once we became aware of what an ultra trendy name it had become, it was too late. We were already in love with it!

If we have a girl in the future, her name will be Alina Carolann. Alina is a combination of both my Grandmother's names - Alice and Lena. Carolann after my Mom.

Forget about my name. It is NEVER spelled correctly, even when I stress that it's DENielle... D-E-N. Always, always, always gets written as Danielle. I barely even notice anymore!

Well, my name is Liesel (from the movie the Sound of Music-but my dad misspelled it on my birth certificate). In the movie it was spelled Liesl, I believe. I absolutely hated my name growing up. Was too different and easy to make fun of. I think it is interesting to note that most people with really unusual names don't go on to give their children unusual names. That should say something to all of these parents who insist on giving their babies awful, unusual names. It is just cruel. Hardly a day goes by that I don't have to spell my name to someone. I didn't want to give my kids names that were really common, but didn't want them to have to spell their name everyday either. My kids are Zachary, Emily and Claire. If we had realized just how common Emily was, we might have gone with a different name for her, but maybe not, because I still really like it.

There are some names I absolutely hate because I used to teach and now I'm a probation officer. Certain names remind me of some of the lovely juveniles I have had to deal with over the years, and there is no way I could ever think of those names with anything but shivers.

I'm sure Aiden is a great name for some of you, but to me, it's a horrid name because he was a horrid juvenile delinquent. The same with Ashton and a few other names.

(Not all the juveniles I've worked with were/are horrid. Some are actually pretty good kids that just did something stupid. They learn from their mistakes. Some juveniles will never learn.)

When I was pregnant with dd4, I wanted a name that was not "out there" but was not too common either. I really liked the name Kaylee but it was so common in this area. So we went with Kylie instead. I thought it was pretty but not all that common. I had only ever heard that name one other time in my life. Unfortunately, it seems several other women in my area had the same idea that year as she is now one of 4 Kylie/Kylee/Kyleighs her age in our area (though they won't all go to the same school together at least!). She is the only one that spells it Kylie so far though. Ironically, I don't know a single Kaylee her age. Figures, lol! That being said, I would not change dd's name even if I had known then what I know now. It fits her and I can't imagine her as anything else.

My son is Cohen. His name is definitely unique in our area. We have had mixed reactions to it but I don't regret it a bit. We chose it for sentimental reasons and it fits him perfectly. A lot of people have commented on how much they like it too. And there are only 2 Jewish families with the last name Cohen in our area (which I know through my work) and they were beyond thrilled when I told them that I chose Cohen for my son's first name. We have had several interesting conversations regarding it. So, yes, I love his name and, no, I have absolutely no regrets about choosing it.

The second time around we went with Ainslee for our daughter and while we have met a few here and there, it is not common. I have gotten both negative and positive responses to her name, but I love it. I only wish we would have spelled it Ainsley because that is how everyone spells it.

I really like Ainslee and told dh that if we have a 3rd kid and it's a girl that would be one of my choices. However, it is starting to get pretty popular where I live. I've heard of 3 in just the past couple months, one of which goes to my son's daycare so I am starting to rethink that choice for that reason alone. I think it's a beautiful name though.
