I feel sooo guilty..
I drive a Gas guzzler and had no idea things like leaving a toaster plugged in sucked energy..??? I need to overhaul my thinking :guilty:

Lots of things still suck power even when they're "off" - televisions; computers; small appliances; etc..

I'm guilty of not unplugging the computer and television on a daily basis - usually unplug small appliances though.. When I leave here for the season I turn the main breaker off to the power supply..

I missed that whole light bulb thing.. What is it - and how much $$ is it supposed to save?

Are we not supposed to leave light bulbs screwed in?

I'm not willing to stumble with a ladder in the dark to save a few cents.

They said that the light bulb would save $60 over the life of the bulb...but more than the money, it draws a lot less energy.

I have used them..the brightness is not that much less than a usual bulb.

Are these the flourescent ones--my hubby loves those things.

The compact flourescent lightbulbs are great. We have them all over our house.
(hubby works for the hydro company so we have had them for a few years)
I recommend that everyone get them. They do save money.

Those are the ones they recommended.

It was a pretty common sense show with good ideas that would be easy for us all to do really..

How bright are they? I need very bright lights..

And how long are they supposed to last?

I am not sure how bright they are...I am thinking instead of 60 watt they would be 52?? I understand they last much much longer than normal ones. They are more expensive at the time of purchase..but more than compensate over time.

We got some of those lightbulbs in a Christmas exchange one year--yeah, weird I know but that is for another thread!! LOL--anyway, we replaced the light in our hallway with one of them. That thing has been burning for like three years! We leave that light on all night and the whole time when we go on vacation. It is just as bright as any others. As I recall, the box said it was equal to a whatever watt, but just used less wattage to run.

Thanks! Anyone know how much they cost?

We did that all through our house. It did lower our light bill enough to notice. They were rather expensive as I recall - nearly twice a plain old lightbulb, and yes, they did last a long time. BUT-now that I'm getting old, the light isn't as bright as a regular bulb. I am removing them and putting the regular bulbs back in. Can't see to read, knit, sew, etc. Anything I really need the eyes for!

They are (up in Canada) are 2 for 10.00. $4 or $5 each. You can usually get them on sale for cheaper. They start as low as 4 watt and go up. They are quite bright but easy on the eyes.

The Christmas lights are called LED lights. They will burn for 200,000 hours. We had them up last year and they looked better then the traditional lights. A 70 light set only uses 3.6 watts!!!!
