It is a documentary about the black GI's who were awarded the Medal of Honor in the 1990's, long after they should have received them. It was produced by Al Roker Productions for the History Channel.
Our DS has been a WWII re-enactor for a few years and his unit was invited to help with the filming. They portray a German Mountain Troop unit, which was perfect for some of the scenes. If you saw it, he was the German who had the grenade roll between his legs and was subsequently shot by one of the MoH recipients. He later appeared as a machine gunner in another scene.
This is the 2nd time his unit was invited to participate in a documentary. The first was a Lou Reda production about the first GI's to parachute at night during the War. They parachuted into Sicily. In that one, he appeared at the very end as a POW.
His unit is a "living history" group so he has learned quite a bit about WWII the past few years. It's funny to see Germans and GI's mingling together in a restaurant, in full uniform, during the events.
There are now rumors that his group might appear in a regular movie to be made soon but that is not definite, yet.
