I am stumped writing a letter for my 10 year old DS to find Saturday that says "You're going to Disneyland, the shuttle leaves in 5 minutes!"

Anyone want to help?

Watch the Disney Planning video. It helped us figure out how to surprise my daughter. What about going simple, like what you wrote? Or do you want a big production, like with balloons, or a note in a box. I like the note in the box idea. In the video they do a pizza box, but you could put it on a cereal box, since it will be in the morning. Or in the box of a favorite video game or DVD if you can be sure he'll get into it.

I am looking for ideas too and thought there would be a ton of them, maybe even some printable templates to personalize but have found nothing. I bought my 12 year old dd the new xbox kinect Disneyland game and want to use that in some way for her to open a package but can't think of anything witty to say. She will open hers on Christmas morning but we won't leave until 1/1 so I have to explain that too.

I don't have the vacation planning video, can you see it online for ideas? Thanks!

Im no expert on this etiher but how about something along these lines...Casually saying to him "man am I bored...Know what I want to do Go to Disneyland!.....then he would hopefully chime in Me TOO! and you can say ok grab your coat, Daddy etc...the shuttle wil be her soon to pick us up!

Just a thought...

To my sweet son,
You are my only one.
I so love bringing joy,
To my wonderful boy.

What should we do today?
Stay inside, sit and play?
Or maybe get in the car,
And drive away, somewhere far.

We could go somewhere grand,
Somewhere like... Disneyland!
In five minutes, we're leaving the house,
And off for (a week) to visit Mickey Mouse!

Dreams, I love your note! That is so cute.

I ordered the video and then watched a bunch of youtube videos. They are so cute and made me cry!!! I can't believe I cried watching youtube but the kids are so excited and sweet. Lots of good ideas there like a treasure hunt or multiple clues in different boxes. There was one family with 3 kids and each got a box with a different clue. One had an airplane, one had a calendar and one had a toy mini and micky. It didn't take them long to figure it out.

Now I have more than enough ideas! I like the treasure hunt one the best with clues hidden in different locations around the house but my dd (12) would probably guess right away. I think I will use Dreams note modified somewhat with a countdown calendar and the Disneyland game. Since we leave on the 1st and not Christmas day, it will give her a little time for anticipation too.

She has some app on her ipod touch that shows waiting times for rides and I saw her looking at it the other day. I found out that she has been watching Netflix Disneyland videos too. There is one "behind the scenes" and another one called "secrets". They come up under the heading of recently watched so I know she will be thrilled with the surprise. You know what that means, UHOH, another Disney crazy in the family! And then there's 16 year old ds who doesn't even really want to go-sigh...

Thanks everyone.

You are welcome to use it, but it doesn't fit your family from what I can gather. I wrote it custom for Amommy21 based on the initial post, her family posted in her footer, her location based under her avatar, and mention of leaving minutes after opening.

I can pull one together for you if you want... most importantly changing "son" since you have a daughter. :goodvibes

Again, you're welcome to use it as well, but it doesn't seem to work for your family or vacation plans.

Oh YES, Dreams. That would be wonderful if you could think of something cute for my dd. Her name is Sarah if that helps and Tinkerbell is her favorite along with Pooh just for ideas. Nothing really rhymes with Sarah...she just turned 12 and still believes in Santa! (I think? We told her years ago when the kids were all asking if they don't believe then Santa doesn't come and haven't heard a peep since. I am almost ready for it to be over because we do the "tinkerbell visits the hotel room each night gifts" and I am shopped out with Christmas gifts-lol!)

No rush since I won't give it to her until Christmas morning. All our gifts come from Santa with the exception of one personal gift we each give other so hers will be from Mom and Dad and we'll have her open it last. The package we reserved our hotel with also comes with a $20 Disney gift card so that will go in with the Disneyland Kinect game too!

I'm so excited but geez, don't watch those youtube videos unless you want to cry=lol!

Thanks for offering. How nice!

THanks for the ideas.. and the poem.

We have actually done the surprise before, last year. Because I have heard about so many bad reactions we decided to tell him slow and I only got a little iphone video of it (which is dark) and his reaction was so cute (PM me and I'll send you a link if you want to see it)

We packed him up at 5am and told him we were doing one of those crazy sales where you had to be at the store early. I brought along his Santa Teddy Bear and put the luggage under a blanket. We told him maybe later that day we'd see santa.

When we got to the airport turnoff and he saw the signs I asked if he knew where we were going? He wanted to know why Santa was at the airport and I gave him his mickey ears and said, "PUT ON YOU MICKEY EARS WE'RE GOING TO DISNEYLAND" He was so sweet about it and I wished I'd done something more special to tell him.

SO I think I am going to do the balloon in the box idea... just a big box wrapped in red and white paper.. when he pulls the bow the box will open and a bouquet of black and red balloons will pop up. He's 10... at that point he'll basically know what's happening.... SO I thought I might just put in his mickey ears and a note from santa that simply says, "PUT ON YOUR MICKEY EARS YOUR GOING TO DISNEYLAND!" since it's become sucha funny catch phrase around our house!

I am a little worried he'll be upset about missing his basketball game that afternoon and a few days of school because he LOVES school. SO I hope that goes over well... but hopefully because we did this last year he'll know it will all be ok.

Amommy, that sounds cute to do the balloons in the box! I hope you have great trip.
