...... for our school's Spring musical:crazy: Not a single parent came forward to help after numerous requests were sent out:rolleyes: Guess I better get sewing!!!!

Good luck! You really are a dedicated teacher. :D

Bless your heart! You are amazing! I tip my hat to you! What is it you exactly have to make?

I can sew buttons on by hand, but that's about it. I have always wanted to sew, but have never taken the time to learn how to do it. I hope they are at least paying for the material. Keep us updated on this project.

Why don't you contact the PTA at your school maybe they will help.

Good Luck...

I wish I was closer cuz I'd love to help. The schools in our area never do any plays or musical; no drama departments, even in the high school. :( If they did, I'd be the first to sign up to help because I love sewing. Good luck finding some help!

Sewing costumes and choir robes are one of the things I do not miss about Ashli being out of high school.

We had one massive request for choir robes with an incredibly short period of time to do them. A friend of mine, the choir director's mother, my mom, and I all sat down and made over thirty choir robes at one time. It was nearly around the clock for two days, just stopping long enough to eat or to sleep three or four hours when our eyes would start crossing so much that we could no longer sew. We finished the last ones at four in the morning the day of the concert. Yep, some things I just won't miss, lol.

Cancel the show. If the parents aren't interested in helping, they aren't interested.

Go on with the musical...but why do the kids need to be in costume?

Can't the person in charge of the musical just suggest what would be appropriate attire for each part in the show? For my daughter's second grade concert, they were asked to be in summery-Hawaiin attire. Every one had their own interpretation of what this should be. The group looked wonderful. To tie it all together, each 2nd grader was given a leai (probably misspelled!).

Each parent should be responsible for making sure their child is dressed appropriately for the part

I wouldn't say this is lack of interest from the parents, but many parents are already busy! Me - I am a Girl Scout leader, active in the PTA, work full time etc. etc. THERE IS NO WAY I WOULD OFFER TO SEW COSTUMES! NO WAY - NO HOW!

It looks like you are in an elementary school - why not have the kids create their own costumes in art class. I.e. maybe they could tie dye t-shirts, or do some sort of a print on their shirts.

I see NO reason why 1 person should have to feel obligated to get all the kids in costume.

Will costumes make the musical better?

The musical is about ancient civilizations ( it ties in with some of the grades curriculum), so we're talking everything from ancient mesopotamia, Rome, Greece, Asia, and South America. The kids are making masks for the Greek chorus to wear, as well as the scenery. So far I have most of the togas done, some skeleton costumes , and today I'm working on Egyptian goddess costumes . I don't want the kids to miss out-that's why I do it. this is the third year I've done this, but this year's play has the most costumes so far. Everyone I've asked has said they're too busy ( I guess they figure I'm not:confused: ) Thanks for all the offers to help:D

I've done the last three All-County Musicals (Peter Pan, ByeBye Birdie, and Lil Abner) and I'm looking forward to next years already!!

Find someone with a good serger -- it cuts your time in half!! And my motto is, "if you can't see it from 10 feet away, then the audience can't see it!"

I hate sewing, sorry. In fact, I don't even know where all the parts are for the sewing machine. DS had to have a costume for a play. All we did was have the wal mart lady measure the fabric. We just tied it around him with a rope. I also use velcro or tape. Even safety pins. It gets by and thats about it. I would suggest maybe next year you could farm it out to the local high school class in home economics - good cheap labor, hopefully free and they are performing a service for your school. Like they adopt the class etc. Write a nice article for the hs paper and bring it up to the principal etc. Shows good cooperation between schools etc. Just have parents donate materials or money for material.
