Tomorrow is the drawing for the NYC Marathon and I am very anxiously waiting to hear if I got in! Anybody else?

When I originally signed up, I didn't think I even wanted to attempt another marathon again, but I figured the odds were low I would get in anyway. Now, I know I am going to be VERY disappointed if I don't make the cut. I am not sure I can raise the $2000+ needed to run for a charity :sad1:

I am! I ran it last year and had the time of my life. Tomorrow can't get here fast enough.. :goodvibes

I'm in the lottery as well. I'll be happy if I get in, if I don't I there are a lot of other good relatively local races for me that'll be looking at. (OBX, Savannah, Medoc, Richmond, City of Oaks)

I could have written your post myself word for word. I have been checking my email every 2 minutes all day. I just thought maybe I would check my credit card to see if there are any pending charges. There is a charge from the NY Road Runners for $255!!! Does that mean I'm in??????

Yes it does, congrats! My guess is they are running credit cards first to make sure they are approved before officially notifying people.

I haven't received anything and I have accepted the fact that I am probably not getting in. I am considering a charity though if spots are still available. I'm just afraid I can't raise the money and will be on the hook for $3000

OMG! I got the official email! I can't believe I'm in!:yay::yay: I had been talking myself out of it the last few weeks because I was sure I couldn't be so lucky to get in on my first try. (Too bad I used all my luck with NYC. Definitely not winning Powerball now!) Now to get a hotel!:cheer2::cheer2: Good luck to anyone else waiting to hear.

I just got my email too. I am also in. Looks like this board is lucky.

Not for me. I didn't get in :(

I guess starting this thread was unlucky! :rotfl:

Anyway, I'm still considering a charity. I'm feeling some people out to get an idea of who will donate to see if I can get even close to the minimum. Is it against forum rules to ask on here?

I think it was 12% of the lottery made it in...so yes, this board has some lucky folks.

And in a totally creepy move...does anyone know how to check to see if someone made it in without actually asking them? A long, boring story, but I can't actually ask the person and we don't have any mutual friends....

Haha that's something I would do. Someone on facebook asked a similar question yesterday and was told that an official list isn't published anywhere, so I'm not sure how to do it.

Guess you could check the finisher results and see if "he" finished???

congrats to all that got in through the lottery and i hope those that didn't get in will try again next year! i did it in 2013 and will be back again this year (9+1).

for those of you who really want to do it but think that the amount needed to raise for a charity is too much, don't short change yourself! i ran with the american cancer society last year which has a minimum of $3800. i thought that i'd have to pony up a ton of cash for it but wound up raising over $5000! you would be very pleasantly surprised to see how many generous people there are out there. go for it :cheer2:

Do mind me asking you what you did to raise the money? I'm doing that next year if I don't get in again and am trying to see what's out there now for ideas if it comes up.

I got in after being rejected three years in a row (guaranteed enrty). I've never been to New York so I am really looking forward to running this race, especially after being rejected.

I live in Chicago and have run the Chicago marathon twice (will be running it for the third time this year) so I know what a major marathon feels like. However, there just seems to be something special about New York that makes it stand apart from all the other major marathons and I can't wait to experience it.

If anyone has any tips on what to see (other than the obvious tourist spots) and great places to eat let me know. We do plan on seeing a Broadway show, just not sure which one yet.

Tip for race transportation~ take the ferry! I did that last year versus the shuttle and it is so worth it. You get to see the skyline and go right by the Statue of Liberty. Somebody mentioned that to me last year and I'm glad I did that versus the buses.
