Anyone vaca to Puerto Rico?

Looking for something warm in winter, warm enough to swim. Did Nassau in November and in April in recent past (Atlantis), and found water to be too cold. Been to Castaway Key (Diz Cruise) in April and water and air temp was too cold (air temp that trip was barely in high 50's). So, exploring options further South. Found some good flights and good flight prices to San Juan. Problem is, I know nada about the island. Wife looking at the Wyndam Grande as an option. We have 2 adults, 2 young kids.

Water temp should be ideal pretty much year round that far south, no? And air temp would have to be taosty 80's even in Feb/March, right?

Any feedback appreciated from Dizzers!!

I went on a cruise the 3rd week of March last year and PR was one of our ports. the temp was warm, still breezy and spring-like for an island but the water temp was still too cold for us. We're from Miami and once November hits we won't go to the beach and only use the pool if it's heated, lol.

On the same cruise we went to St. Thomas and Grand Turk where it was HOT and the water was a perfect temp for swimming and lounging by the beach and pool. We LOVED St. Thomas and have been dying to go back since then.

I went to Vieques, Puerto Rico (small island off of the main island) in January of 2009, for 2 weeks, and the weather was perfect! It was in the upper 80's and the water was warm like a bath. I don't know a whole lot about San Juan (only flew into and out of), but the El Yunque National Forest (main island) was one of my favorite parts of my trip and and I highly recommend it, if you can get over there.

Yep, it will be in the 80's in Feb/March. Beaches in PR are a year round thing, the Wyndham (Rio Mar) is very nice. All the big hotels have tours to the rainforest (El Yunque) and to Old San Juan.

If you are adventurous you could rent a car but I would not drive - I was born and raised in PR, even at 16 I did not want a license since driving is a contact sport there . Now when we visit my mom does all the driving. Of course driving you can see and do so much more.

We went to PR for a week a few years ago, loved it! We stayed in Luquillo (rented a house through VRBO) which was beautiful, but took a few day trips to San Juan. Some of the things we did other than go to the beach we hiking the rain forest, snorkeling and kayaking in the biobay which was incredible. Since PR is a US territory there is no need for passports and they us the US dollar, so no money changing, etc. I highly recommend it!

eta: We rented a car with no issues at all.

I went to PR about four years ago for a long weekend. Had a great time! I stayed at the Gran Melia resort, which was about a 30-40 minute drive from San Juan.

I rented a car (a bit scary driving there, but I survived and was glad to have the freedom to get around). One day we did a catamaran/snorkling trip. Another day we visted the El Yunque rain forest and another day we did a night time kayaking trip in a biolumenescent bay. A lot of fun!

We walked around San Juan one night but I wasn't overly impressed. I wouldn't choose to stay at a hotel right in that city.

we went years ago and stayed at San Juan Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino on Condado beach , was about a 15min cab ride from the airport... Was very nice and could walk to many things.. Either we walked , cab, or took the local bus around.

Did lots of seight seeing, (lots of history there) .. The hotel was nice and the pool area was great, had a swim up bar , waterslide, hot tub and right on the beach ( the beaches are all public, but we didn't have any problems)

There really are no all-inclusives in PR like there are in the Dominican, etc.

We had a destination wedding in April 2009 at the Wyndham Rio Mar & absolutely loved it. By far one of the most amazing places we have ever been hands down. The people are amazing, the scenery spectacular & local cuisine pretty good. April was right before hurricane season & weather was perfect. High 80's, low low humidity & rain one day (our Wedding day of course! ) but perfect. Water in the ocean? Lukewarm. Even my one year old loved it.
Cannot wait to go back. By far one of the best kept secrets ever.

Take a look at The Horned Dorset Primavera. You can buy Modified American Plan(MAP) for $200 a day, which includes breakfast and dinner daily. That's the price for the meals for two people, not the accomodations. It's a gorgeous Inn and a member of Relais et Chateaux which is a special group of upscale properties. They do not disappoint, perfect for couples.

We have been there before and stayed in Dorado at the Embassay Suites which was absolutely gorgeous! Take a look at their website, I think it was a 4 tier pool that overlooked the ocean. While there we visited the Bacardi plant, El Yunge National Forest, some caverns, the world's largest radio telescope, took in a snorkeling trip which was inclusive of lunch and all you can drink, visited a casino, toured San Juan and Old San Juan. We had the opportunity to see a lot and still felt as though we could see a lot more. As others have said the driving there is interesting to say the least. For some reason their ambulances run with sirens all the time, you will see random cars driving down the road without doors, when they go through the tunnels they beep their horns constantly, you may see random doors on the side of the road, they have some toll roads that can cost more going one way vs. the opposite way, you may see random livestock in or near the roadways esp. on side roads and most importantly when traffic gets backed up they use the side of the roads as additional lanes. Also if driving around the island there will be areas that you need to lock your doors and its odd how you can be in a nice neighborhood and then literally blocks down the road it seems like the hood. It truly was beautiful and there is a lot there. Oh yeah and one of the neat things are their tree frogs called coqui which sounds exactly like its name. They are very soothing like crickets here and if you google on youtube you can find some videos to hear them. Best of luck to you whereever you chose there We hope to make it back soon!

if you want a beautiful hotel can be all inclusive thiis is the place it has a water park its quite epensive but fabulous lots to do .
