I purchased a Philips JackRabbit24 cd burner back in Feb. It has been a nightmare trying to get this stupid thing to work! I am able to burn photos with it, which is actually the reason why I bought it. When I tried to copy a cd, my troubles began. I have replaced the unit twice with them...still doesn't work! I always get the same errors when I try to copy a cd....ASPI failure and Flush failed. I tried contacting emachines online tech support and tried all their suggestions. Still doesn't work! All I have managed to do is ruin about 15 cds!! I have tried numerous cds, knowing that some have a copyright protection thing on them.
You guys ALWAYS give such great advice, I figured I come and ask. Can anyone help me??

I dunno if this will help you or not, but here's what I do sometimes when my burner gives me grief:

I copy the data to a folder on my desktop first.
Then I copy the entire folder to the CD.

I know that's what we always have to do at work when we use our burner there, too. It always freaks if we copy from CD-to-CD.

let us know how it goes!

(and yes, i have XP, too)

How would you be able to copy it to your desktop?? Once I put a cd into the drive on my computer, what should I do?? (sorry, not the brightest computer person in the world!:o )

sounds like bad drivers not wanting to work with xp

Ok, here's step-by-step:

1. Insert the original CD into your computer (not into the burner drive, just the regular read-only drive).

2. Double-click "My Computer"

3. Right-click the drive indicated for the CD you inserted in step 1, and select "Explore" from the menu that comes up when you right-click.

4. You will see a listing of all the files on that CD. Highlight them all (either shift-click, or click one of the files and press Ctrl/A), then right-click and select "copy".

5. Create a new folder on your desktop (right click blank area of the desktop, select "New" and "Folder". Give it a name and press enter.

6. Double-click your new empty folder.

7. Right click in the big white space of this empty folder's contents window, and select "paste".

8. Now copy this new folder to your blank cd.

There are multiple ways to accomplish what I've laid out above, but I decided to give you instructions as I would my 89-year old grandmother who isn't a geek, either.

let me know how it goes!

Tried again using Pebblszz suggestion. No luck.:( I am completely baffled. When I talk to the Philips tech support, they are now telling me that it is a computer issue. When I talk to the computer tech support, they tell me since I am talking about a driver that I added, they can not help. The only suggestion they offer me is "run system restore and take it back to out of the box". Here are some of the things I have done..maybe you can see something I am missing.

Defragemented the computer.
Stayed unconnected from the internet.
Turned off my screensaver.
Uninstalled both the computer's cdrom and the philips burner and allowed the computer to reinstall.
Philips had me update the easy cd creator program.
I tried using XP's cd copier instead of the easy cd creator.
Since both the printer and burner use the usb port, I unhooked the printer.

Can you see anything I am missing??? I know the box from the burner said XP compatible. It doesn't make any sense why it copies photos with no problem at all.

EZ CD Creator is our problem at the office, so I use a different software. See if you can find different software to burn your CD's?

When you use the EZ software, are you setting it up before the copy so that it runs a "test" first? That seems to help, too.

But then again, I have no trouble with the XP utility that is used to burn a CD - and you do.

Poor baby, wish I could help more!

Still got the receipt? Might consider exchanging that sucker for a different one if you can't get good tech support.

Oh! Another idea just occurred to me. Sometimes you need to update your Windows software for "updates" or "patches". Have you done that? here's where to go to do it:

www.windowsupdate.com

After the page loads, give it a minute while it does it's thinking, then when "Scan for updates" appears, click that link.

Read the results carefully, and follow the instructions.

You'll have to reboot after each product update so they don't overwrite eachother in the Registry (I don't care that XP says you don't have to do that anymore, you DO in many cases - so do it to be safe).

Hang in there!

Yes, I do have easy cd creator run a test first. I have also updated xp.

I would return the burner to the store, but I have one problem. The first burner I got didn't work. Target was out of stock at the time. I called Philips tech support and they told me I had the option of either returning it to the store or exchanging it through them. I chose them, thinking they were doing something nice for me. I packed the whole thing up, box and all. When they returned one to me, it was a refurbished unit!! They only sent the burner, not the box. There is no way to exchange it at the store! I gave Philips holy heck for not telling me I was going to get a repaired unit. I have basically paid full price for a 2nd hand unit!!

Now that would just burn me right up - those Phillips folks better be happy they didn't do that to ME....

I would call them, write them, etc - and keep going up their little corporate ladder until I got results.

This is shameful business practice!

(can ya tell I'm PMSing today? LOL)

I had a lot of problems with an older Philip's CD burner, they just don't seem to be very compatible.
Returning a refurb is getting to be very common in the computer industry, I have had clients get back refurbs after returning 2500 dollar Dell notebook computers! Talk about mad :)
Your problem is fairly well known.
Go to this site:
Downloads
and download aspi check and run it.
If your computer fails download force aspi from the same site and give that a try....

Dh says if you are willing to do some digging, start at google and click on groups tab, and do searches on your exact problem and see if anyone has had your exact same problem. Also you can try the fourms at www.lockergnome.com or www.expertexchange.com. Good luck!

A lot of people have problems with refurbished products for some reason. I think it's because they believe the company will send them a cheap, broken down old unit that they sell at the flea market. That isn't necessarily so. There may be cosmetic blemishes, but the products works just as, if not better, than a new one. Whatever was wrong with the product when it was sent in was fixed properly. I have a refurbished monitor and it looks new. I've had it for years and have not had 1 problem with it.
