The local stores are a pain to deal with. Thredup looks painless but as we all know looks can be deceiving If you've used them, what was your experience?

I have not personally used them but am on several facebook boards where people have. Most people seem to say that it was easy, but were disappointed in the amount they received. Two other sites, swap and flipsize seem to be more favorable. With swap you can set your own price so a bit more work, but also more profit.

I am planning to clean out my closet and get rid of all my work clothes this weekend. I no longer need all the dress clothes that I use to wear everyday so I was trying to decide what to do with all of them. The easiest would be to take them to goodwill, but many of the outfits are newer things that I would like to try and sell, plus I have lots of vera bradley. Last time I let my DD sell my vera at her yard sale and they went quickly, but I am not sure if she is coming home this year for her summer break from college, so I think I will try and sell them on my own.

I just tried it. first of all it took forever for them to process. I sent in a whole bag of stuff. most brand new with tags. name brands. they gave me credit for 5 items (one a brand new pair of shoes) and gave me $10.00 in credit. what an insult. they get rich off your stuff. I would rather donate it and know people who need it will receive.

I haven't tried them yet but I have a giant bag of inexpensive clothing on my dining table to send them. I've heard they give very little money for your items but they do take certain brands that other companies don't, such as Old Navy. When I recently lost almost 40lbs I was constantly buying Old Navy jeans every few weeks from going down in size so I have quite a few pair of almost new jeans to get rid of along with other clothing items of "lesser" brand names.

I did use Twice (liketwice.com) to sell most of my other clothing that was too big and was very pleased with them! They emailed me their offer within 5 business days and I was happy with the value they assigned for my pieces. Twice does not take brands like Old Navy, however (they do accept Loft, Gap, etc, though).

Yes, this. I sent in a huge bag of brand new things that were worth over $100 by my lowest estimation, and got a check for $20. They said a number of the things were not acceptable, but they will not return them to you. Then, I saw the pieces for sale on their site. They are a scam. I wish people would stop supporting them.

I am about ready to send a bag back to Thredup but I think I am going to look into Twice now. Thanks for all the opinions!

I've done it twice, both times the payout was ridiculously low. You can see what they have sold of your things and at what price. They have sold 3 of the things from my last bag for a total of $60. They paid me $8. I'm not bothering anymore. I usually just donate, maybe I'll get brave and have garage sale.
