I'm interested to hear from anyone who has used their points at DLP....where did you stay, what view, what did you think? Will I be disappoointed after wdw? Does it include passes and breakfast?! Also, does anyone know what the points are for the remainder of the year as not in the guidebook and can't get onto website! Looking to go in Dec (not xmas week). Many thanks

We did a year and a half ago. We stayed in the Newport Bay Club, which we liked, but it was HUGE. If we do this again, we would probably stay at one of the other, smaller hotels. We really enjoyed our stay at DLP. Continental breakfast and park passes are included in your points for the stay. The resort is really quite pretty, and since it is relatively compact, easy to get around in. I would highly recommend doing the Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show if you go.

We stayed in Sequoia Lodge which was very nice. It's been a few years now so I don't remember the details, but it's along similar themes to Wilderness Lodge.

Keep in mind two things: (1), It's a hotel room, not a villa like you're use to with DVC, and (2), Hotels in Europe are different than what you're use to here. They just have a subtle different 'feel' to them. One thing I remember is the hallways weren't as wide as we're use to.

No matter what you'll still enjoy it and will have a great time. I second the recommendation for Buffalo Bill's. It's similar to a Dixie Stampede show if you've ever done one of those.

Debs, I know there was a post recently on the UK DVC board which covered this off if that helps? I'll try and find it for you.

Debs - I found the thread - but it's probably not as helpful with regard to your specific questions as I'd hoped. Here it is anyway

Now I love Disneyland Paris. But I could not justify using my DVC points to stay there for a few nights when the same points would give me almost a fortnight in superior WDW accommodations. That said, I only have 150 points so not many to spare! If you have plenty of points then you might be happy to spend them. I guess I'm just greedy :teeth:

As Caskbill says, the rooms are smaller - but if you're used to UK hotel sizes then I'm sure you'd find this fine :)

Keep in mind that the rooms booked with points also have tickets attached don't they? I did stay there on points and really enjoyed it.

I've done this and stayed at the New York and Sequioa Lodge, of the two I prefered the Sequioa. Now while it does cost A LOT of points (even more this year) there is a point at which it becomes economically viable. Because you get brekkie for the group AND tickets into the park, IMHO it's still not a bad deal for a family of 4. For a group of 3 it's a little pricey, but if you're in "use em,rent em or lose em" territory with your points I can see justification for this type of usage. IMHO it doesn't make economic sense to use them for a group of 1 or 2 people only. I think you have to calculate that breakfast and the tickets into the park are worth about $50-60 per person per day, IMHO that tips the balance on if it's good value for points or not.

We have done this twice, first time stayed in the New York and second in the SL. The points keep going up every year, it is good value as it costs a lot of money to stay in these hotels. Breakfast is included whether you pay cash or use points. I feel that I have "done" DLP and will not be going back. I cannot imagine saying that about WDW!

I have booked points for our three night stay this coming October half term at Disneyland New York. I know it is a bad use of points but I had already booked a holiday off site in International Drive for this coming May before I bought into DVC.

We have stayed previously at Disneyland Hotel and Davy Crockets. If we did not use the points DH would probably not have agreed to another holiday with cash so I am really glad to use them this way. If we rented them out DH would probably have spent the money on something else and I need my Disney fix so to me it is a good way to spend points!!!

Hope you make the right decision for you.

Yes, the points do go up all the time. Not like DVC where the points are constant year to year. (Or if they need to reallocate, they can't have a net increase in points, only a rebalance, which they haven't needed to do since 1996).

Just for comparison, I checked what we 'spent' at DLP: It was 29pts/night weekdays and 36 pts/night weekend. (Value Season)

For 2005, the Sequoia Lodge is 39 pts/night weekdays, and 53 pts/night weekends. (Just a year ago, 2004, the points were 37/48.

I feel like you do: Been there, done that.
