We booked this rate for May and I'm wondering if anyone has stayed with this special and what the rooms were like. Are the rooms refurbed? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

We have actually stayed twice with the 49.00 rate. First time was not as good as second. The first time we were on the fourth floor. The room had a slight musty odor and parts of the tile on the bathroom floor were coming up. The in room music didn't work either. It looked worn, but it was clean. I figured for the price it was fine. The second time we were on the 7th floor, it was a completely different experience. No smell, no missing tiles, it even felt cleaner and the music was working. All four of us noticed the difference immediately. When we checked in the second time the computers were down and we had to wait about thirty minutes to get our room and they gave us a free breakfast buffet for each of us (which was so good and cost around 15.00 per person I think, made it worth the wait) and extra cookies to eat while we waited. If you can request the 7th floor it was soooo much better than the room we had on the 4th. We go back one more time in April, the rate was so good I took advantage it for quick weekend trips. If you have any other questions I would be happy to answer.:)

Thanks so much! I know we would have to ask for another room if the room smelled musty, since DS has asthma and severe allergies. I remember when I booked it gave us the option of an upgrade for $20 if rooms were available at check-in and I said yes to the option, so maybe they will go ahead and move us up. If not, we will definitely do the "sniff test" when we walk in the room. Sounds like you got a fabulous deal with free breakfast. Almost makes me hope the computers are down when we arrive... :rolleyes1

Hope your next stay is as good as the last one! :goodvibes

I have stayed at this hotel a few times and it has always been a pleasant experience. I have 2 stays booked at the Travelzoo rate, I jumped on this when I saw it. I actually booked 2 rooms over memorial day weekend at $49.00 per room. I figure if available I will get an upgrade because I am Hilton Honors Diamond Member, also free breakfast as a Diamond member, so this works great for us.

how do i get the $49.00 rate code at the doubletree castle?

Not sure it is still available, this was a special from www.travelzoo.com about 2 months back. I know it is not listed on the website anymore and you needed to use a link they provided.

Travelzoo is a great website for travel deals. Just sign up and they email the top 20 deals every week or 2.

I once got a room at the Fairmont San-Fransisco for like $150.00 a night and it came with a daily room credit of $80.00. We used the $80.00 everyday for breakfast for 3 of us, so it is not a cheap place.

Thanks! :thumbsup2

I also booked this hotel for July 4th weekend from travelzoo at $59/nt, so I'm really hoping all goes well on our trip in 3 weeks. :goodvibes

Any recent stays at The Castle? Looking forward to our split visit there in a week! TIA.

Just returned from a stay at The Castle (5/29 to 6/5). We had the $49/night rate through Travelzoo. When we booked, the only rooms available at that rate were wheelchair accessible rooms. Upon arrival, the front desk tried to change to a different room but the system wouldn't allow it. No biggie, we just had a bathroom with hand bars.

Room was nice, recently renovated (faintly smelled of fresh paint job), including new carpet. Pool was a little cool but never crowded. Didn't take advantage of the on-site breakfast but it was always busy as we passed by. We were on the pet floor but rarely disturbed except by exceptionally loud, inconsiderate guests down the hall who felt it necessary to yell/argue in the hallway as they returned to their room late at night. Never heard our nearest neighbors through the walls.

Warm cookies were wonderful, as they are at all the Doubletrees we've stayed at. Staff was always pleasant and helpful. Only really big negative was the laundry. We tend to wash at the hotel on a down day so it doesn't have to be done upon returning home. The hotel has only one washer and one dryer in their guest laundry and each are $2 per cycle. Inconvenient and expensive in my opinion.

All in all, a decent experience, especially for the rate we received since we tried to make this a budget vacation. :thumbsup2

I got the $49 rate for the Doubletree Castle for our August 1-6 trip. This hotel gets a favorable review in the 2010 UG, so I'm looking forward to it. I have been wondering whether they will pull any sneaky stuff like resort fees, or in-room refreshments that are stored next to a motion detector, etc. (If the bottled water moves 5 millimeters because I dropped my suitcase, that costs me eight bucks.)

But maybe I should think positive: the cookies get universally good reviews. Plus, I can "cash in" my cookie rainchecks from the Doubletree in Collinsville, IL, which was all out when I stayed there last month!

We've stayed a total of four times now at the Travelzoo rate, two weeks ago we stayed at the $59.00 rate. Of the four times once we received a handicap accessible room. We were only staying for one night so it wasn't a big deal. Of all our stays that was the worst, the room felt "grubby" for lack of a better term. I said I would never go back again, I didn't sleep well because the sheets felt gross to me. However I didn't say anything because it was a one night stay, we were in the room for maybe ten hours from check-in to check-out.

However, over Memorial Day I stayed again (so much for never again :rotfl2:), we had two rooms on the 8th floor and they were awesome. My MIL could not believe we paid $59.00. They were clean and fresh they even had a welcome back gift for me (HiltonHonors) two bottles of water, a bag of chips and a letter thanking me for choosing them once again. I was so impressed with the last stay that I booked three nights again for $49.00 for Labor Day weekend (my boss told me I need a Disney intervention :lmao:)

Don't worry about hidden fees, no resort or parking fees. Check in and out was easy, noise was never an issue. Aside from the one grundgy room its worth the $49-$59.00 rate. I have found that when we stay on the higher floors our rooms are better. I have stayed four times in the last four months so I guess its fair to say I recommend it!

We just got back from a 4 night stay there. We got the $49 rate, and we loved it. We didn't know what to expect, and we were pleasantly suprised. My dd's LOVED the theme. The rooms were nice and spacious and clean.
The service was very good too!

I would definitely stay here again!
