Anyone use United frequently? How is their baggage service?

I want to check a bag, but we have connecting flights both ways, and I'm just wondering what the likelihood of losing baggage is? Thanks.

BTW, we're flying Hartford,CT. to Jacksonville, Fl.

Depends if you tip the skycap? :lmao: Just kidding...kind of. Ok so I read an article about 6 months ago. If you are departing from McCarren (Vegas) or Hong Kong or 1 other airport that I can't remember which your chances of loosing a bag are slim. There are 3 airports that have chips in their luggage tags, they are pilots for this new program they will be using at major airports. The tags cost more money than the regular tags so it is only being used at busy airports that initiate an original departure. With that said, I guess it's not really an "airline" you need to worry about, but the airport. I remember when Denver opened their big circus tent years ago, they were loosing bags left & right. Ok, now I'm blabbing.

Last month I was scheduled to fly Us Air from MCO to GEG, US Air moved me to United, and United retrieved my bag from US Air hands and put it on the correct flight (I'm assuming) because it ended up with me in GEG. :thumbsup2 So my 1 and only experience with United was fabulous!

Okay, then I'm not going to worry about it :) So no one had better post that United sucks or anything...just kidding :)

Just got back yesterday from flying with United. We left Vermont connected in Chicago then to Los Angeles. On the way home we left Orlando, back to Chicago then home to Vermont.

Great service! No lost bags either ;)

The last time we flew United, our bags got lost. My wife had to work the phones all evening to find them and then talk a goob in United's IAD luggage room to get off his bottom and take our bags to Luthansa so we would have our stuff the next day when our cruise ship left Barcelona.

My luggage is black, wirth zippers and "type 51" on their official form. At least they bring it to your door once they find it...

They managed to get my luggage from Pittsburgh to Washington Dulles to Frankfurt and then handed off to Lufthansa to Pune India. I was so happy to see it in India at 2:00am! And they got it home too!

Only airline that ever lost my luggage. And it's not that it didn't make my flight. I got on in the originating city, and they took it off in the city we stopped briefly at. Why? Who knows.

For the first 30 hrs of my vacation, they did not know where it was - literally told us they couldn't tell us when it would be delivered because they didn't know where it was.

Within a couple of hours of hearing that for the third or fourth time, my hotel's front desk called to say they had delivered it.

So the best I can say is that it was probably a fluke, but if it happens to you, the likelihood of the people taking your phone calls (on the few occasions you can get through the automated phone tree to an actual person) knowing what the status of your bag is, is slender. But you might end up with the bag anyway.
