I have not slept well for years. After a long sleepless night, the next day is a living hell. I feel just terrible all day and so- so- so tired.

So I went to my Doctor today and got my first prescription for a regular sleeping pill. It is called LUNESTA.

Anyone have good or bad luck with Lunesta, or other sleeping pills?

(I have read a hundred books on getting a good night sleep and used all of the techniques, nothing worked)

You sound like my 25 yr old son!! He hasn't slept well in so long!! Let us know how it works for you. :)

Zopiclone, Zimerfame and Zolpidem here, all of which worked in the short term.

Lunesta is also known as Eszopiclone and is a nonbenzodiazepine hypnotic. It will work in the short term well but does not have much of a long term viability - you become resistant to these drugs pretty quickly.

Take one when needed or regularly depending on what your doctor thinks is appropriate.

For longer term treatment a sedative tricyclic anti-depressant may be in order or perhaps a barbituate.

Xanax. Works very well. It's actually an anti-anxiety drug, but boy will it knock you out!

Yep. I take Lunesta. I sleep better with it, but still not enough. Hard to tell if my residual drowsiness is sleep deprivation or Lunesta related.

I have a prescription for Ambien. It works great for me - I actually only take half a pill. I tend towards insomnia & also have a REALLY hard time sleeping away from home.

I've used Ambien and like rascalmom only have to take half and it knocks me out!

I stayed awake almost all night with Ambien. Usually Xanax works for me, but not lately. Hope it works for you. Lunesta is supposed to be better than Ambien.

Love my Lunesta. Only problem is I tend to try to stay awake and Lunesta doesn't exactly make you sleepy, just helps you get to sleep. When I actually take it and get in bed it works wonders though.

This sounds like me, although getting up early now and teaching is helping me fall asleep a bit better! I REALLY feel like sleeping when the alarm goes off! LOL!

I DID try Lunesta and had a weird side effect, which was a horrible taste in my mouth. Like metal. Water tasted awful and I drink a ton of water aday. Most foods tasted like metal. No idea why.

Went back to Ambien. It's working OK> Thinking about going to Tylenol PM, but it used to leave me hung over feeling in the morning. :earsgirl:

I've had very good results with Ambien. One warning, take it when you're ready to go to bed. Don't dawdle and try to do something else. Some, like me, suffer from a funky retrograde amnesia. I can't remember what happens from the time I take it until I fall asleep. Weird.
