Has Anyone used Hotwire for travel deals? I'm looking at booking through them for a car rental. The Hotel deal is just too risky for me not to know where I'm staying. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Yes, I've used hotwire a number of times for flights and hotels. I've never had any problem. Most of the times I was traveling somewhere for research and on my own schedule, so I didn't care about specific times or hotels. I can't imagine that car rentals would be any different.

I used hotwire over the weekend for a room at Embassy Suites. We usually use priceline w/ help from biddingfortravel.com. I wasn't having any luck so I tried hotwire. I read what hotels were in the area and matched them with what was listed. I was very happy, but it did take a little research. People have had luck with betterbidding.com but they didn't have much for where we were going. Good luck!

I have used them for MCO-area hotels. I stick with the ones that have suite amenities, and it's usually the Amerisuites.
I also use them for one way car rentals from Budget. They have the best price when you use their one way link.

Thanks I have 2 one ways that I have to do will try them although I already have reservations with Budget. Maybe they'll beat them.

I had buyer's remorse using them for a car rental last month. The rental itself was fine, we got an SUV for 8 days for $28.95 a day plus taxes/fees. But about a week before our trip, car rental rates on hotwire for the same dates dropped to $26.95 a day. I emailed them to see if they would match their own rate but they said no. I had no recourse since this is in their terms and cnditions. I think I'll stay away from Hotwire for car rentals unless it is absolutely last-minute.

By the way, we got Hertz and everything went well.

I had the last night of my stay up in the air so I decided to do a hotwire 80$ 4.5 star. The AAA book has it as a 360$+ a night hotel. I found a website "island of adventure penny saver" not sure of the web addy - but they said you have a good chance of landing a universal hotel if the list of amenities had "childrens activities nearby" though nothing I put in would show that icon.

A friend of mine was burned once by booking a 5 star room in a hotel that didnt allow tshirts and shorts in the lobby...

You should be pleased if you go with a star rating. Low end hotels are just that... low end.
