I was thinking that once our cruise was paid off I would like to add $100 a week to our onboard account....(we spent a ton on the three night and it makes me nervous about the 7 night!)

has anyone used this service and how was it?
I thought I recall reading on here that someone made payments to their onboard account before boarding and they had problems.......

lilly, I remember reading about adding monies to your onboard account prior to the cruise also. But I don't remember anyone stating any problems.
Try changing the title to something like 'Pre-paying onboard account, any problems'. You might get the response you're looking for. I only looked here because it said DCL gifts. :confused3

lillygator -- I applied a large chunk of money to our onboard account before we sailed. I gave my TA my credit card number and he took care of it all for me. I think all he did was call Disney. The first night we received cards that showed each of the "deposits" we made. He did say however, that it was non refundable, use it or loose it. Of course, we used every bit of it and then some!!

We did...we just called and added the shipboard credits before we left. It was great. We had checked out the spa/drink prices/palo service charges/tips, etc..then estimated how much we would actually be spending..and added a bunch more for souvenier money..lol.

Worked excellent!

ohhhh good to know that it is a use it or lose it situation......although we have no problem spending money!! After seeing how much we spent in only three days I am afraid they won't be able to get the bill under our door on the 7 day~~so I am going to try and plan ahead!

I have an account with ING that all our money is going into. We are getting 2% interest on the money and I won't need to withdraw it until after we get back to pay the credit card bill. Why let Disney hold onto your money when you could make an extra $10-20 to spend on yourself.

It's an online bank ING Direct - you see TV commercials for them the orange account.

They give you $25 to open the account and 2% interest - which really beats .5% from the bank.

Just an FYI, the DCL number for doing this is 1-800-601-8455.

I wrote before the troubles I had encountered.
I put $1000 on over a period of time prior to our cruise.
DCL's computer system shows it in $200 increments.
The problem encountered was that many of their staff do NOT know how to read the balance properly and merely stated "You have $200, that is all that is showing" Apparently they have to scroll across the screen and it shows how many blocks of $200 are there. eg $200 X 5 = $1000.00 It was eventually straightened out but took a day or two. I was asked if I had a receipt. I told them it was added using my Credit card, Disney never sent me a receipt but I have my CC billings at home if required. Not with me.

Also it is NOT a use it or lose it if you paid cash onto your OBA. Whatever is left over (If only ;) ) is credited back to your credit card.

That said I will do it again on our next cruise (If I have the money) but will photocopy my CC billings and throw them in with my tickets just to show them the dates payments were made.)

Cheers,
Grumbo

Drat. Maybe if I had known that I wouldn't have tried so hard to spend it....and then some!!

I believe the "use it or lose it" someone referred to only applies toward the credits you put on your account from the Disney Visa earned rewards. I think I read on a post that once you put your rewards on your shipboard account you can't have them returned if you don't spend them.
:Pinkbounc See! I am learning so much from reading these boards! You thought I was just lurking!
