Anyone Upset By UG Being The OG For DIS?

I bought the UG in February. I like the fact that it gives you positives and negatives, where the Birnbaum book leaves out the negatives. There also seems to be far more information in it. I realize that the UG is based on opinion in many cases, so that maybe something they loved, we will not love, and something they disliked, we may find wonderful. But they give the reasons why they liked or disliked it, and from that information, we can determine if it is right for us!

I like what the one poster said - the UG of the UB (unofficial guide of the unofficial boards!). And combining the info. from the UG with the info. gained from these boards should make for a pretty happy and successful trip (We hope!).

So I have no problem with the UG becoming a sponsor - in fact, THANK YOU! I'm not sure what influence the boards would have over the UG (or vice versa) because there are plenty of opposite opinions in both places!

Sure I think that sponser is great.

That said, I have always preferred
Birmbaum's book. I am the kind of person who just wants to know exactly what the attraction is, but then I will make up my own mind if I want to do that kind of thing.
Everyone's likes and dislikes are so different, and a bad opinion might make me miss something I might really enjoy.

I'm the same way with movie reviews.
I don't care if the reviewer hated it, just tell me what it's about, tell me the rating, and then I'll decide if I want to go.

Also another plus for me - Birnbaum's book is easier to read on a bouncy bus on the way to work.
The UG has smaller print and is hard to read when the bus is bouncing through the pot holes.

I am just curious if any one is upset because The Unofficial Guide is now the official guide of this Board.

I am happy it is - I love the UG because it is the unvarnished truth. It "tells it like it is". It is not disney propaganda.

Any one not happy?

I do not care one way or the other. I enjoy the PassPorter the most even though I buy one of each of the big four, IMHO, guide books every year. The Unoffical Guide included.

Thanks very much, folks. I hope that we can continue to inform and entertain readers both in the Guide and here. And if there's anything you'd like to see in the Unofficial Guide, please let me know.

Sincerely,

Len Testa

I am thrilled that someone wants to sponsor the Boards! Like one poster said, I don't care who it is, it keeps the Boards free!

Personally, I use the OG, the UG, AND the Passporter. Each has its own merit. I also recently purchased the Fodor's guide with children. It has been a FEW years since we have gone with children, but plan on taking our neices this fall. I thought the Fodors might give me a different perspective. I thoroughly enjoyed it. But then I read all the guides cover to cover like a novel. Then I read them again! (okay, I'm maybe just a little obsessed)

I have loved the UG for several years now, so I have no problem with it!! I highly recommend the UG for anyone who asks!......P

I've never read the UG, I just get all my information here! I can't see many people being upset by a new sponsor.

I would say the large majority of the people on these boards are disney crazy but are also pretty realistic about WDW as a whole and know all is not 100% roses

As such I am sure the UG is a great match for these boards

thanks

Like I said before, I love the UG. I work at a bookstore, and it's usually either the UG or PassPorter that I recommend. I buy it every year myself, and I gut a kick out of the humorous comments scattered throughout. I'm glad they're sponsoring the boards, and I'm glad that Bob, Len and the rest of the UG team work hard to make WDW vacations great for all their readers. :)

The Unofficial Guide is the only reason my DH was actually all for going back to WDW. If I hadn't followed it fairly closely on our first trip in July of 02 with 3 little ones, I'm pretty sure Disney wouldn've gotten anymore of our hard earned dollars. As it is we're going back this summer and staying at YC......my 04 UG is already really broken in.

Let's all be thankful that we have company's willing to sponsor these boards. How many of the 60,000 plus would be hollering if there was a monthly fee attached to these boards?? Be thankful and TRY when you can to use the DIS sponsors or any other boards you may frequent. Doesn't hurt me one bit to have UG as a sponsor for this forum. Thanks to them and all other sponsors.

Uncleromulus isn't a big fan of the Unofficial Guide, but there are a LARGE # of folks who value the book very much. If it gets people to Disney and helps them enjoy their trip--well that's really the bottom line.
I'm therefore pleased to see the Unofficial Guide become a sponsor!!

Welcome to the unofficial guide. They tell it like it is - if something is great they say so - and if its not, they say that too. I use the book for planning and also enjoy reading it - so welcome aboard.

Love the UG and am thrilled to see it supporting these boards. Both offer potential visitors the "agony and the ecstacy" of a Disney trip, without too much (or not enough) hype.

I don't really care, I think it's great they are sponsoring, but I'm just curious as to which books are blinded by pixy dust or are considered Disney propaganda...

I'm not trying to be saracastic, I really am curious. I just can't really imagine a guide book being that way. I've read the official guide but only the attractions and resteraunt descriptions and they didn't really come across that way. (I've been to WDW about 30 times so I don't really need a guide). But I want to reccommend a good guide to people who ask.

This question is ridiculous, the OP is obviously not a fan of the UG. Sponsoring is a financial commitment which in turn affords them some extra advertising. No where does is that that they are the "official guide", just a sponsor.

Seriously, with all the great info and discussion on these boards, you'd think people would be glad to have sponsors like the UG that allow us to enjoy these boards for free!

I first used the UG in 1997. I took my family on the Dumbo Or Die In A Day tour. It was great. These boards are also great and the combination of the two is perfect.
On top of that the way that Len Testa has worked on a personal level by e-mailing some of us says so much about him and the book. The personal service he is willing to give out of his own time is great and the single best advertisement for the UG.
