My DD 4 is just getting over her first ear infection and I was thinking about trying earplanes for her so there is no problem on the plane. Does anyone have experience with these?

Yes i have and they worked great just be sure to put them in before taking off and don't take them out until you land.

I've used them for me, but don't have experience with them with a child... but for me they were wonderful.

I found they even worked if I took them out when we were up, and then put them back in before we began decent (even though they recommend keeping them in for the entire flight). I did this on a long flight because after a few hours they did start to hurt my ears, so I took them out and then just put them back in about 45 min prior to landing.

You really should keep them in until they open the door to the plane. The cabin is pressurized so there is another pressure change at that point. It's not usually very noticable but it is possible for you to feel it if you've had the earplanes in during your flight.

I had my son use them because he had had issues with his ears plugging up on previous flights. Within minutes of putting them in his ears he complained of being nauseous and he thought he was going to vomit. I took them out of his ears and his nausea cleared almost immedietely. I have occasionally heard of this side effect--just something to be aware of. I will also note that this is the child that tosses his cookies at the drop of a hat!!! Now I give him some decogestant timed so that it will be full strength about the time of descent and that has been wonderful for him.

We've used the earplanes for both our kids and the worked well. However our daughter didn't like them in her ears on the return flight home. Just as a suggestion make sure to bring a drink or some cookies or something so that if the earplanes don't work they have something to chew and even better swallow. If they swallow it also takes the pressure away. My DW grabbed a bag of chips (yes not the greatest but it's what we had) and we fed them to our DD. It worked wonders too. Good luck!
