anyone tried this?

I am going to DL next weekend, usually I walk around with my 24-70 and switch to the 70-200 if I need to. I am thinking of spending a day with the 70-200 as the only lens I use. Most of my shots at Disney are fairly wide angle, so I am thinking that doing this might make me focus on details a bit more, and perhaps more selective focus shots at the higher magnification.

Anyone else tried it before?

I did a day only with my 50-200 on my last trip down to Disney and have to say it really wasnt bad sometimes I did miss having the wider options but wasnt a huge problem. I am one of those people that tends to zoom in to get as close as i can for the details however. The challenge for me will be when I go in November and decide to do a prime only day or two that will be challenging.

I think it is a great idea. It forces you to think more creatively and can be a great learning experience.

Well, like Kevin said, it's definitely a good challenge. And you're fortunate enough to be close enough to DL to give yourself a challenge like that and not feel guilty that you're not going to have a chance to get other shots that you might miss with such a lens.

70mm is pretty far away... I'd be interested to hear how it turns out.

FWIW, I ran ExposurePlot on my Disneyland photos from last August, and man, I really didn't do much zooming...
60mm - 5.3%
70mm - 0.24%
80mm - 7.39%
130mm - 0.08%
140mm - 0.4%
150mm - 0.48%
180mm - 0.48%
200mm - 1.85%

The big winners were, yes, the 50mm at 27.87%, 28mm (the wide end of my main zoom) at 17.43%, and 10mm at 13.73%.

A good challenge would be to just use the fisheye for a day. That'll get you looking at things differently!

Using a fisheye for a day would just make me dizzy and sick

I bet that 90% or more of my disney shots are in the 24-70 range, so hopefully this will give me a different perspective.

I've never gone exclusive with the 70-200 at WDW, but on many days that I've carried it and other lenses, it has received a lot of use. I find it much easier to shoot with a long lens than a wide lens. It's great for shooting people, performers, signs, and distant objects. The f/2.8 version is also good for crowd control and corporal punishment.

me too, that's anywhere not wdw for me. although i have to say the only reason i use my 28-135 as a walk around instead of my 70-200 is sometimes it's just to long...if it's not a once in a lifetime trip, go for it espec. if it's a length you don't use there much
