My son got a $25 gift card for gamestop and he really wants a DSi. He's thinking of trading in his DS for one. Has anyone done this? Did you get a fair price for the DS? I don't want to have to spend alot of extra out of pocket to do this.

I had a friend who did this for her child and they didn't get that much for the DS... I remember her saying it wasn't worth it to her but since her child wanted the DSi, she did it anyway.

You would do better to sell the DS on ebay and then take the money and go buy the DSi. Gamestop doesn't give a whole lot on used systems.

We preordered them when they first came out and they gave us $70 which is double the normal credit. So for us it was $100 out of pocket which we thought was a deal since both their systems had "issues".

I was wondering if that wouldn't be a better way to go. His ds is in great condition and it's one of the newer cobalt ones. I think I'll run that idea by him.

My son trades things in all the time. Of course something he loses so much money on but it is better than nothing. We have also sold things on Ebay. He made over $150 on a couple of game systems via Ebay. Of course the game systems were sold with games and cases.

I don't know where she got it, but my friend had a "one item, half price" coupon for GameStop a few days before Christmas. Might be worth a seach on the internet!

(Unless she really didn't have a coupon and just didn't want to tell me she dropped another $200+ on her 11 year old for Christmas!) LOL

Both of my boys traded theirs in back in June. At that time, I think they got about 70.00 credit- I have no idea what it is now. They love their DSIs. If your son has a lot of advance games he enjoys, he might not like the DSI as they don't have the slot for the older games. Just some food for though. Best of luck to him!

My son did this morning. I didnt even think about trying to sell it on ebay to tell you the truth. Im wondering how much much he would of gotten after fees, shipping, etc. anyhow, he received a $40 credit towards the DSI. We also took a brand new super smash mario brothers that I had bought at target when they had the buy two get one free deal with the $10 off coupon. They gave me full price credit for that one so that was better than what Target would of given me ($36) I didnt know they would take it until they mentioned they would so we headed back home and brought back his DS Lite and the game. Between gift cards, cash and the credit he walked out with a brand new DSI this am. I didnt realize it was the only gift he had asked santa until last night when he mentioned it to dh and I.. :rolleyes1 Guess I need to really pay more attention as they get older.

DD traded her DS in when the DSi first came out and they offered double for the DS. She also took many games that she no longer plays with and ended up paying $50-60 for the upgrade. She likes her DSi very much and she thought it was money well spent. I had her use her own money, but I personally would not have paid $100 to upgrade.

personally I wouldnt of paid $100 either but $10 for sales tax wasnt a big deal. I would not of bought him one when he had a working DS Lite.:confused3 But because he traded his in and used his money- that is a different story.

That's what I said, DS asked for the DSi for Christmas and I told him right away that he wouldn't be getting one when his DS worked just fine.

I don't know if he has any games to trade in with it, I'll have to ask him. He doesn't play any gameboy advance games on it so that's not a big deal.

It does depend on the game . . . Mario games and Pokemon seem to be pretty good to trade in as are Lego. They often will run promotions where you can get "extra trade in credit".

When I upgraded DD's older DS to a DS lite, I checked at GameStop and they would only give me $40 for the old DS. I thought, "No Way." I promptly went home, took some pics (still had the box, manuals and charger) and put the DS up on ebay.

I ended up getting $119 for it and charged $20 for shipping!! I could not believe that people were paying that much for an old DS when they could have purchased a DS Lite for the same price by the time they paid shipping. It was a pink pearl (rare) color with Nintendogs stuff stuck on it, so that left out any bidders looking for a DS for a boy -- and it still did well! I did not include any games.

I figured it was going to do pretty good based on what the finished auctions ended at. Oh, and I tried to sell it on Craig's list at the same time for a little less ($80) since I wouldn't have any ebay fees. I got a couple of inquiry emails, but nothing else.

Also, if you have a Toys R Us near by, check with them also. Ours also takes trade ins for games and game systems.
