Considering taking family to DL via Amtrak, will be traveling with DH, DS12,DS6, and DS2.....we usually fly but when going to Orlando but want to visit DL and really just want to spend time with kids....looking to make a memory.... Little concerned if DS2 would be able to sleep coach... Are the chairs up against the side of train so I could pad with pillow?

Recliner style seats in coach, 2 by 2....each pair has an aisle and window seat...easily put up pillows againt window, recline seat and pull up leg rest for a fairly decent child bed. Depending on your child's demeanor, some can sleep easily anywhere, when tired and the subtle motion of the train can lull away anyone. Train travel is an adventure.....it's nice being able to get up and walk car to car, coach to club and dining car. The seats are very relaxing, semi private with the high backs and alot of room around each pair. We use Amtrak from Ohio to WDW, long trip, but a one nighter and coach is not bad for one night...sleepers are just too expensive for one night. Bring along small blankets, gets cold at night, pack a lunch, snacks and drinks and have a ball riding the rails..a lost transportation that is very enjoyable for the youngsters...seeing America..

Thanks for info Pepe... we are looking forward to just enjoying family time together, playing some games and looking at the landscape, it will be nice to be able to walk the train...My boys are good travelers I was mostly concerned about the seat for the 2 yo.... He sleeps on the plane so I think he will sleep on the train.....Are there power outlets for coach seats in case I want to use portable DVD with headphones? :yay:

Are you sure that you can go to Orlando via AmTrak? Well, go directly, that is.
Last I heard, the route from New Orleans to Florida was out of service. If it still is, they route you up from New Orleans to Atlanta and back down again. It takes a LOT longer to go that way.

Ah, never mind -- I saw Orlando and thought you wanted to go to WDW. You still can get to California.

It's been our experience that it's the luck of the draw.....some cars and trains are up dated and have 2 outlets per seating pair and some cars have one outlet for the whole car.....I know Amtrak has been up dating......we've had it both ways with no rhyme or reason....We've seen them load passengers according to destination....in one car...and others in another....easier to locate passenger for detraining....
