Anyone succesful with trades

I am debating about trading a reservation with my points with another owner. Just wondering if this is generally successful or should I not hassle with it and just wait until the 7 month window. I will be targeting my travel in July/ August

I was going to post suggesting that jocko and another member just swap home resort points in transfer, so they each had control of their own reservation.

But then I remembered the once per year rule for points transfers. Does anyone know if MS will allow a "points swap" with another member to count as one transfer if done at the same time, or would this be two transfers (one in, one out) and thus not allowed???

Unless you want AKV Concierge, you should be able to get a reservation at 7 months in July or August at most any WDW DVC resort. (Not necessarily true for the non-WDW resorts, though). I wouldn't go through the hassle, myself.

Back in the day, we had a couple of members who we would trade reservations with. They would make summer reservations for us at HHI, and we would make F&W reservations for them at BCV. This meant we could all take advantage of the 11 month window. Eventually we added on points at HHI, so the need for trading ended. It was nice though, and worked out great.

Nope, not permitted. Once a year in or out.

I think most people just wait for their 7 mo. window. We have owned at SSR since Dec 2006 and primarily travel in early-mid August and have been able to book at our 7 mo. window at all of the WDW DVC resorts plus HHI and VB. While most of our trips have been in summer a few trips have been in January, over spring break or over Memorial Day weekend. Although due to a medical emergency that just caused us to cancel the trip we were also able to book for August at VGC and Aulani. No shut-outs (yet). We almost always have a Plan B in mind tho should our first choice not work out. Like Carol said, unless you want something that is super, super hard to get I also think it's a waste of time.
