In my never ending quest to deal with a head full of thick curly frizzy-ish hair, this is my new obsession. I discussed it briefly with a hairdresser/mom at parent/teacher conferences last night (until the teacher had the nerve to call me in); she said that 10 years ago, she wouldn't have recommended it, but it's come a long way since. I'm terrified tho...hate the thought of growing out a mess.

I've heard of a neat new procedure that can cost up to $700 - $1000...it's supposed to be great, but it's not in the budget at the moment. It's on my "when I win the lottery" list.

Meanwhile...the cheaper version...will my hair still be frizzy-ish? Can I still dye it?

Do you mean the Yuko System? Sometimes its called Thermal Retexurising System.

I had it done 4 weeks ago and all I can say is WOW.

I have naturally straight hair but it hasn't been straight for 10 years. It was also red on top with a blonde undercolouring. Now its is my naturl brown with soft blonde hi lights and I don't even hair to dry it and its poker straight and shiney and in the best condition ever. If I do dry it I just blast it with the hairdryer and it doesn't need any brushing or rollers. You can still dye but you have to wait 2 weeks before having it done. And you cannot have the Yuko for 2 weeks after you've coloured it. Ypu would also need to have the regrowth done evry 6 months or so.

I used to have hair like a Yeti now its like Jennifer Anniston. I was sceptical and thought it would still be a bit fluffy but its just dead straight and shiney.

Tell me about this YUKO. How much and where. I would love to have smooth shiny hair just once. Once in high school I burned most of my hair off trying to straighten it.

A gal at work had it done, and the results she got are amazing!

Her "new" hair is gorgeous! Shiney and thick. I'm very impressed.

My friend Tracey had this done and WOW! She looks incredibly.
She has tried everything to straighten her hair- to the point where it was starting to come out.

She says it was the smartest thing she's ever done.

OK, this is what I want for christmas!!!! I took a look at that site, and all I can say is wow! My hair isn't overly curly, but it is wavy/curly, and getting it straight with a blowdryer can take forever, and it still gets fluffy and frizzy in damp weather (which I can not stand!!!!!!!).

Does the weather outside affect the way your hair looks? If you want to curl it will your hair hold the curls or will it fall out? Out of curiosity how much did your treatment cost? The site said $300-1000 depending on hair length and whatnot. How long is your hair?

I have never straightened my hair but would just like to know what it is like to have straight hair. My hair isn't frizzy, just wavy. I guess it does have its perks as I don't roll my hair, but when I was in high school straight hair was in and I wanted it so badly!!!!

The weather makes no difference because if it gets wet or windswept it goes back to smooth and shiny. In the mornings I shower and then drive to work with the car windows open and wind dry it and it still looks like the pictures on the website.

Yes curls hold , I had it corkscrew tong'd yesterday and it held from 11.30am until I woke up the next morning looking like roadkill!!!! I have soo thick hair that I thought it would be only wavey and not curly but it held.

The only hair product I use after washing is a little Toni and Guy Protein Spray but thats not neccessary, I just put it in because my hair was a least 40% bleached blonde when I had it done.

GET IT DONE!!!!!!!!

It cost £200 which is about $300 and it took 3 hours and my hair is the same length as the first picture on the top left.

Good thing about not blowdrying is no dry split ends.:Pinkbounc

Yup, that's the neat new procedure I heard about. From their website...

Q: How much does Thermal Reconditioning cost?

A: Typically from $300-$1000 depending hair length, thickness, amount of chemical processing present and of course, the stylist's experience.

Q: When I go back for the re-growth, does it cost less?

A: Not usually. Because the same amount of time is involved with the retouch, often the cost will be the same as the first treatment. All the hair still has to be ironed even though the solution is mainly on the roots.

Q: How long will the Thermal Reconditioning treatment last?

A: The new growth usually needs to be treated about four to six months after the initial treatment.

SO...I've got long, thick, processed hair, so I'm looking at the upper range...let's say $800...every 4 - 6 months. I'm thinking this isn't an option for me anywhere in the near future. But how CRUEL to dangle this in the face of a person who faces daily bad hair days. ;) :)

OK...any info on the CHEAP-O procedures that you can get at the likes of "Fantastic Sam's"?

Oh sure, when I was younger I would do anything to have straight hair. Now that I've come to terms with having curly hair, they come out with this.

Geesh.....pretty expensive procedure. I don't think it would work with hair like mine though. It grows like a weed. I'd have to have it done 3-4 times a year. That's big $$$.

I'd love to show this to DD, but I KNOW this is what she would want for Christmas and birthdays for the rest of her life!!!:D

Mare, when Poohstyx and I met you and your family at AK and then again at MK I thought your hair looked just fine. But, somtimes a change is in order so I wish you all the luck in the world for the look you are going for. Say Hi to "Just Dave" for us.

Well you could always order some of these straighteners, they are a million times better than ordinary ones and I have these as I used them before getting Yuko'd.

www.hqhair.com go to electrical and its the ones on the left GHD Ceramic irons. They are excellent and give same results but not permanent. They heat to 210 degrees in 5 seconds and give a smooth shiny appearence. They have them with american plugs too.

Cold Iron, what a sweetheart you are! :) Actually, people frequently tell me they like my hair...sssuuuurrrreee, THEY don't have to live with it! ;)

I will say hi to "Just Dave" when we see each other tonight, and you say hi to Poohstyx and the rest of the gang! I was so hoping you would be in WDW the week after Thanksgiving. :( Oh well, we WILL catch up with each other again someday, I'm sure. :)

WOW!! What a lot of money to get the results that God gave me at birth!!!!!!

I have super straight hair. I HATE it!!! I can not get it to do anything or hold any kind of style. I have gotten perms but they fall out pretty fast or else I end up with old lady hair.
