We are staying at SL using points, just thinking about where we will be housed. Can we requested where to stay.

Is it best to email or telephone

In the DVC handbook it says that using points will get you a standard room - whatever that means! At the Sequoia Lodge you have the possibility of being out in one of the lodges rather than in the main building. Though that wouldn't be nearly such problem in August/September as it would in winter.

We stayed at the New York on points and got a room with a pretty good view. I've seen a few reports where people seem to think they may have got a better room because it was booked on DVC points. Nothing hugely special - just not one the car park views!!!

Not sure who you could make any requests with at the moment - you may have to wait until you're actually at check in. If you want to try though, have a look at the Contact Information thread in the Useful Info sticky.

I'll be very interested to hear what sort of room you get. :)

The rooms in the main building are called Montana rooms. Montana rooms also have a minibar.

So the cheapest rooms at SL are the ones in the lodges, then the Montana rooms without a lake view, then the Montana rooms with the lake view. When the hotel is reasonably quiet, people who have paid the lowest price are often upgraded to the Montana rooms on check in, at no extra charge. But for the lake view you may have to pay an extra supplement.

No guarantee on where you will be located. We have stayed twice on points (cause they had to be used) and had a standard room allocated both times.

However as our room had not been cleaned by 18.00 and was also damaged we got upgraded to a suite!! Now that's what I expect from my DVC points ;)

Having said that, I realise that all I am entitled to is a room/passes etc. but it would be nice if you got a bit of extra recognition as I don't think that many DVC members stay at DLP on points.

Not surprising really, when you see how many they want for a room. I used mine about 4 years ago, when I managed to get a room at the HNY for 33 points a night - and I thought that was quite a lot. Now the minimum you can get away with is 43 per night at SL - for a weekday in January!!!

At least it wouldn't seem quite so bad, if that guaranteed us a room with a nice view - rather than just a "standard room". It's not a great incentive, is it?!!

I would guess as the resort is only partly owned by Disney they are not really keen on DVC visitors as there is no cash exchanged in the transaction.

Exactly, it's not a Disney owned resort, but on the other hand Disneyland is and the points there are also ridiculous and don't even include admission!!

Both pointswise & cashwise it's almost cheaper to go to Florida than to Paris...

We have stayed twice at SL using points due to pregnancy and young DD ruling out WDW.

The first time we were in a standard room in the lodges which was what we expected. Last year though, we had booked two rooms as Grandma and Grandad wanted to experience DD's first Disney holiday, and were given two Montana rooms with lake views!! This was beginning of September after English kids went back to school so not sure if the upgrade was due to low occupancy - I would say not as they were using the lodges and the hotel was quite busy.

You never know, you may be lucky.

Just noticed that we will cross over a few days at the SL at the end of August.
