During my WDW stay I rarely ate at a table service restaurant but "Why do they call it WHISPERING Canyon" would be worth it just to watch and enjoy the fun.
There is a counter service restaurant - you can eat outside on tables near the pool, spend a quiet afternoon on the beach and listen to the children laugh in the distance....boat rides to the Magic Kingdom...busses elsewhere.
There are many places to explore just in the Lobby alone- quiet spots with overstuffed furniture to enjoy an early morning watching the resort come alive with your coffee or a restful afternoon break.
One aspect I have always loved about the lodge is ..... when you are there you are away from the frantic pace of a theme park. It's peaceful, beautiful and very welcoming.
Unfortunately I can't help you......yet! I have booked a solo trip at the WL in July! I can't wait!!!! When are you going? If I go first, I'll be glad to share!

I'm looking at next year so lots of time to look over everyone's reports and photos
The only thing that concerns me, after having stayed at the Epcot resorts where the rooms are really light and airy, is that the rooms at WL might be a little dark
Look forward to hearing what you think about it in July.
Thank you everyone else, it's that homey feeling that is really appealing to me.
I have stayed there numerous times by myself, I don't find it dark at all....I love that northern woods feel! There are many nooks and crannys in the lobby some with fireplaces where you can curl up in a chair and read or whatever. The resort has a great snack bar, and there is also a nature trail that will take you down to the campground area, I have never felt unsafe on this trail by myself either, I usually go early in the morning and there are always others on the trail, if you get an early start alot of times you will catch deer and turkeys near the trail. I have also run into Disney CM on this trail on golf carts so I think it is somewhat "patroled"
July is fine if you LOVE heat and humidity and crowds, remember that US schools are out during the summer months and thus they take many vacations during that time. Personally if you can help it I would not do FL in the summer, Fall and early spring the weather is usually perfect.
You can't go wrong with the WL at any time of the year! Alone or otherwise.
