Anyone stayed at the GC DVC by renting points?

I'm just now beginning to research the idea, and I didn't know if it was plausible, as I remember disussion about there being only a limited amount of DVC rooms and the expectation was that they would be booked quickly.

Anyone done this yet? How did it work out for you?

I know people on this board who have ceratinly done that, so hopefully they'll chime in for you. A sponsor of this board is in the business of renting points so maybe you can check his site for more info.

The issue with points is if there is availability for what you are wanting during the time you want to go.

DVC members can book 11 months out if GCV is their "home" resort or 7 months out if it's not.

You didn't mention when you are looking at going so it is difficult to answer any more specifically.

I have rented out my points for a VGC room successfully. I don't anymore, but I just wanted to say that it does work for the DVC member and the renter. Check out this thread to learn more of how to rent here and what to look out for: Considering Renting from a DVC Member

David's Disney Vacation Club Rentals website is here He will charge a little more per point than if you were to rent from a member directly.

If you need some advice or help, feel free to pm me your questions. I have rented DVC points and rented my DVC points before.

I looked at David's site. He is only for DW. Where can I find a site for DL? I want to rent points for the Grand Californian.

I have rented from a member who owns at a resort at WDW. I was able to get a reservation for a studio in April 2011 at 5 months out (Sunday through Thursday night). I don't know how it will be since this is my first time renting points.

But, feel free to ask me after April 15th and I will know!

Sure would like to stay there, but it doesn't make sense since I can walk there from home. If anyone has a reservation they can't cancel be sure to drop me a line. ;)

I've rented my points for the Grand several times, both personally and through a couple of different boards' sponsors so it can be done. As long as you can determine your dates early on - you have a good chance of getting the accommodations you're looking for - at a price that is way better than what Disney charges directly.

The only thing I don't enjoy is that there is no Concierge service available through points for VGC owners.

I rented points last year and again this August for a 1 bedroom. Reservations were made in Feb and we will be staying 6 nights. Very easy to do using a members points, I would not do Dave, just gets more expensive. You need to look at the point chart to see the requirements for each villa. http://www.dvc-resales.com/grand-californian/index.htm

Points have been running $10/point and up.

We rented points privately. I was nervous, I checked out the person as much as I could he had references which were all positive. He had also written some books on Disney so seemed all above board.

I had already booked Grand Californian in hotel room, and then when I came across the villas and the idea of renting points, I really wanted to do that.

ours went without a hitch. got confirmation letter from owner. checked reservation with resort. when it came to holiday time and time to check in got there and everything was perfect.

probably wont suit everyone and there is risk, but ours was an easy process

How were you able to check the reservation with the resort? I was told that only DVC owners could do that.

GVC is different in that unlike all of the WDW based DVC resorts, reservations can only be confirmed by the owner.

If you rent points for WDW based resorts - you can confirm the reservation by looking at the online check in information, we owners have been waiting for them to implement the online checkin for DL - but the 2 sites are on different software platforms, from what I understand - so its not possible at this time.
