Trying to sort out holiday for November 2003, and can book this hotel for the same price as a flight only. (can get kids prices but not on flight only).

Has anyone stayed here? Is it ok?

Hi Val - we've not stayed there but passed it a few times just a few weeks back and it looks very nice from the outside. I'm sure I read some positive things about it on the US boards when I was looking arond - and it's in a super location:D

Hi there,

As it happens we just got back from that hotel last month. We stayed for 2 weeks. It was a great price with Thomsons. The hotel itself is not bad. The rooms were clean and large enough for three people. We had 2 interconnecting rooms, 6 of us altogether. The bathrooms were not huge but again big enough. The TVs were ancient, but worked. Coffee makers with free coffee etc. A safe that cost me about $27 dollars for 2 weeks. Housekeeping was OK, somewhat late in the day at times though, 3pm and later which was often the times we were arriving back from the parks for an afternoon break. There were very few English or Americans there mostly Spanish (Latin) and Europeans, it is a hotel with a Tui desk, the company owned by (or that owns) Thomson.

There was nothing special as such, the pool we only small and not very well used, except for my children who were in it every day. No snack bar by the pool. There were the usual laundry facilities, a little gift shop, etc. The 2 best things about this hotel though and they would be enough to tempt me to go there again were the free breakfast and the location. There was a full hot and cold breakfast buffet every morning, included in the price for us. The time saved was priceless. We were able to hit the parks so much earlier than we had ever done before. It was in a nice restaurant, with tables properly laid up, tablecloths and napkins, cups and saucers etc. Not something you get too frequently in Florida if you get my drift. The children took huge advantage of this and loved every bit of it. It also saved us money, around $30-40 per day.

The location was fantastic. It is on Palm Parkway, literally 4 minutes from Downtown Disney. So easy to get to and from anywhere. Palm Parkway becomes Turkey Lake Road, whic goes straight to Universal Studios. No sitting in traffic on International Drive. Took 10 minutes max. Seaworld is 5 minutes away, again down Turkey Lake Road then right onto I cant remember the road but it is signposted. The furthest point at Disney was 10 minutes away. Basically a fantastic location.

So I would recommend this hotel for those 2 reasons alone, along with fair facilities and rooms as well. I noticed at reception that the rack rate was $160 per night, I dont know that I would pay that much. But for what I paid it was great.

Hope this helps, if you have any specific questions I will do my best to answer them.

Pam

Val,

I've checked in the OAG 'truth guide' and this is what it says............

Location: In Lake Buena Vista area,5 mls notryheast of Epcot, amid similiar properties in popular tourist area between small woodland and broad avenue.WDW 2mls;choice of shops and restaurants within 250yds.Courtesy bus to the theme parks.

Exterior: Broad presentable modern 6- storey brick built block with bands of tinted windows.Resembles office building, built 1989.

Interior: Functional low-key atmosphere.Small plain lobby and pleasant modern restaurant.Bright,cane-furnished conservatory bar and lounge opens to wooden terrace in garden.Safes in Rooms.

Grounds: Lush and secluded but tight for space.Well landscaped terrcae bordered by varied greenery and palms;some umbrellas and loungers beside freeform pool.

Opinion: Quiet, comfortable establishment with reasonable facilities though limited garden.Quite convenient for tourist outlets and Disney attractions.Popular with European guests.

Hi Val,

We've never stayed there, but I found the website for you to have a look at.

It looks and sounds nice.

RIU ORLANDO

Thanks for the info Pam and Karen, also the web site Michelle.

I have booked the hotel today.

Pam is there a proper coin laundry because the brochure just says laundry service?

Thank you everyone

Hi

Yes it is a coin laundry. It is right by the pool, so we swam in the pool while waiting for the laundry.

Hope this helps

Pam
