Anyone stayed at Holiday Inn Nikki Bird recently?

We are booked to stay at the Holiday Inn Nikki Bird---when we initially booked there was no way we could stay onsite--so now as our trip gets closer, I panic and am trying to find out what kind of hotel it is has anyone stayed here within the last year or so? Even if you drove by it, what was your impression of it? Did it make you think or ?
It's too late to change our plans as everything is paid for and we did get a pretty decent rate in comparison to other hotels.
We aren't looking for a "palace" to stay in, just somewhere clean to rest our weary heads!

I answered a few months ago:

"We stayed at a very low price for a couple of nights before our cruise last April. I was prepared for a run down place but I liked it! It looked like what a Holiday Inn Near a theme park would from a Dirty Dancing Movie. I thought the older-motel style was attractive.

The room we had faced the interior courtyard/pool which was nicely landcaped. The room was very clean with refrigerator and microwave as well as double sinks. We received the newspaper each day we were there.

I've read some horrible reports but we enjoyed our stay!"

It is very close to the entrance to Magic Kingdom. If you do a search on this place you will find very differing opinions. My suggestion would be to request a different room if you are not initially satisfied.

We stayed at the Niki for a week in April. It is going to be our off-site choice from now on. It was very clean but showed some wear (e.g. the enamel on the tub and sink were worn from frequent scrubbing). It was nicely landscaped and our daughter enjoyed searching for geckos and spotting an armadilllo. The three pools were nice and the wading pool was just right for our one-year-old. The buffet at Angels was good and an excellent value. We stayed in a king leisure room which was quite large with an additional fold out couch. It was nice to be able to sit outside our room door and read the paper while the baby napped. The fridge and micro were clean and nearby grocery stores made eating breakfast in very easy. Incredibly close to Disney property. Staff was helpful and responsive. There are alot of British families as it is a Virgin holiday hotel. The kids at the pool had a nice cross-cultural experience.

We have stayed there for 2 trips so far and liked it. It is possible that some of the negative comment come from people who don't want it getting too full from having a good reputation. I have recommended it to friends and customers and have had good feedback from them after their trips.

Our first trip, 1997, was a split stay because they didn't have availability for the weekend. Our first week was on a second floor near the front. Nice quiet room even that close to the highway. The second week we had a room around the back on the first floor and at around 6:00 am there was a loud sound like someone playing a trombone very badly. Still don't know what the noise was, but it was our first trip to a motel (we usually camp) and I didn't have the knowledge of the DIS boards to know enough to ask for another room. It only happened once thank goodness.

Our trip in 2002 we stayed there for 7 days then switched to WL. This time we had a room on the first floor in the inner courtyard where the pools are. Again, considering the proximity to the pool, the room was quiet.

Ate at Angels and at the Diner. Food is good and reasonably priced.

Hint: if you do a split stay try to do the fancier hotel last. In 2000 we couldn't get WL for the end of our stay so we stayed there first and moved to Days Inn Universal Studios for 2 days. I DO NOT recommend this hotel to anyone unless it has been fixed up since then. It was literally falling apart and after being on Disney property for a week with Disney security I felt very unsafe. It was a big come down after WL.

We stayed there last April and had a very good experience. I was really sweating it, since I did Priceline so there was no chance of cancelling, but all the worry was for naught. The decor was tropical and cheerful, didn't really show any wear and tear (might have been recently renovated), and staff was pleasant. Kids liked the pool and I thought the landscaping was nice. There always seemed to be people around trying to keep things looking nice. I think it's a nice place to stay, and I'm very picky about cleanliness. No problems at all.
