Anyone stayed at Disney Caribbean beach resort?

We stayed at CBR a few years ago and enjoyed it. It was our first experience of an on-site resort, so it was quite special for us :cloud9:

However, in the same price range, we now prefer Port Orleans Riverside. This is partly down to personal preference of the theming, but also because we really liked the boat ride from POR to Downtown Disney.

We stayed there in 2002 - the resort is very nice but the only problem we encountered was with the buses. It is a very big resort with only the bus service to get to any parks - hence it can be very very busy - especially when everyone is trying to get back from the parks after an event like the fireworks at Epcot or MK.

To be honest that really put us off and we were there in May - so not as busy as it could be.

It is a lovely place to stay but we won't bother with it again. If you have your own car then it would be different - but then you have the parking costs at the parks.

As an on site guest then you don't pay for parking at the 4 main parks and the water parks plus DTD are free for everyone.

Thanks Claire - didn't realise that you got free parking:) - never bothered with a car when we stayed on site.

Yes just show/display the parking permit for the resort you are staying in.

CBR was also our first on-site hotel...thought we were in heaven after the hotels on IDrive!! After a while the food court and lack of choice drove us mad, buses were a bit hit and miss and the main pool was very small. On the plus side it was a very friendly resort, with fantastic beaches and watching the fireworks at night was magical. After last year at CSR, i would not go back to CBR, however it will always hold fond memories for us. CSR has a much larger pool, with a quite unusual food court (which would not suit everyone) and imho a much better bus service. Where ever you stay on Disney i don't think you will be disappointed:thumbsup2

We stayed at CBR in march 2006 and loved it! There might be more bus stops and a little more waiting around for them, but hey! - we were on holiday and a few minutes waiting was not going to bug us! It's a beautiful resort with palm trees, carribean music playing as you walk over the bridge, nice pools... (I am crying now as I want to be there again!!!)
We are going back in oct this year but are staying at CSR - don't get me wrong, as I've already said, I LOVED CBR but we want to try somewhere else, and if CSR is half as good as CBR then we'll be OK!

We've stayed at quite a few of the Disney hotels (inc Grand Floridian and COntemporary) and I would actually say CBR is probably my favourite, bearing mind cost etc.

I love the beaches with their hammocks and the quiet pools at each village. The buses weren't great but then we tend to drive to all the parks as its free - with the exception of Magic Kingdom (If you park there you've still got to get the monorail or boat, but the bus stop avoids this)

I'll be surprised if you don't love it!!

we stayed there a few years ago and really didnt like it compared to the rest of the Disney hotels, we thought it was very tired and in need of doing up. We had to move rooms while we were there because the water wasnt working right in ours.

I would definatly vote pop century over it even if pops a value its so much better

We've stayed in lots of on-site resorts except CBR so we will be rectifying that, this August !!! :cool1:

HI we are looking at this hotel & wondered what people thought?

Hi we stayed at both Pop and the CBR for ourwedding last year and although I loved pop for the disney theming and icons which are real cool I much preferred the CBR.The beaches and relaxed atmosphere made our wedding trip complete. We stayed in Jamaica and this was a great location, only a 5 mins stroll across the bridge to the main pool and resturants.Overall a great hotel.
As girlsontour said,we also like to try different hotels and have opted for POR.I wouldn't hesitate to go back in a couple of years time though.Wherever you stay it will be magical:wizard: :dance3:

Hi,

We stayed there in Sept 2005 & again in Oct 2006. We love the resort as it is very quiet. As has been said, the food does get a bit "samey" after a few days, but I think that would apply to any resort if you ate there every day.

The resort is quite large, and it can be quite a walk to the food court area, but it is a nice walk. We stayed in Barbados the first time, and it was a 5 minute stroll to the food court (Old Port Royale).

Last year we were put in Trinidad South. This is farthest from OPR (a good 10 minute walk) and we weren't happy. We asked to be moved, but the CM said that we would need to go back the next day as he couldn't authorise it. However, after walking from our room to OPR we decided to stick to the room, and we enjoyed the daily walks. If we went out at night, we would drive to OPR and get the bus from there. When we got back we would get off at OPR, get a drink and drive back to the room.

The main pool is small, but each "island" has it's own pool. They aren't themed, but they do tend to be quiet and they are about the same size as the main pool (slightly smaller maybe).

The buses run quite frequently. I think the most we have had to wait was 20 minutes, but it is usually around 5-10 minutes.

You can buy a mug when you get there for around $12 each. This entitles you to free drinks for your entire stay (soft drinks, coffee, tea and hot chocolate - not alcohol). I think a few Disney resorts do them, but if you are staying for 2 weeks, you will definately get your money's worth from them. You can only fill them up at OPR though.

We are staying a Port Orleans this year, but only because we wanted to try another resort. I wouldn't hesitate to go back to CBR.

Steve
