Hello, we just booked our vacation in June at the Holiday Inn Nikki Bird, and I was just wondering if anyone had ever stayed there, and any comments you might have?? Thanks!! :wizard:

Hi, stayed there aug 03, location for disney was amazing, I think they said it was the closest non disney hotel to disney. Angels diner in the hotel had great buffet breakfast and evening meals pizza burgers etc, they had kids eat free offer for hotel guests which was good.
Hotel was clean but looked basic, like I had imagined an american motel to be, if you know what i mean ( I am british!)
I think you would describe it as no frills but, saying that we would definitely have booked to stay there again except, my brother wanted to have a villa this time, I would recommend this hotel as long as you are not expecting 4* luxury.

Have a great trip.

We stayed there in March of 2004. I would NEVER stay again. If you have expectations no higher than a 2 star (at best) then it will be fine. The hotel is generally surface clean. Meaning, it's not filthy but very, very run down. The bedroom and bathroom fixtures were very rusty. The windows were caked w/ so much grim they wouldn't come clean if you tried and it felt like you were looking through smog to see outside. The carpets were very crusty and stained. It's just very, very old and it shows. I got it on priceline dirt cheap. If you paid more than $30 a night you paid too much.

We stayed beginning of December 2004 and we loved it! :goodvibes
Our first time ever to Florida, family of 6(2 adults, 4 kids), booked on internet for $65 a night, staying 10 nights, definately not knowing what to expect-read reviews on internet and I was really worried and questioned changing hotels many times, so very glad we didn't! We are not 5 star fussy, fussy peole but we do demand a hotel that is not run down, cleanliness and safety are top priorities and we received this 150% :cool1:
If you are used to staying in fancy hotels then this is not for you-if you are a family who wants to have all the perks but not pay the price this is for you!

The location to Disney is incredible-as you go to leave the parking lot, there is a set of traffic lights, turn right drive about 1 mile-no lights or anything and you turn off right onto Disney! No traffic worries, for this alone it's worth it! :wizard:
Yes it is an older 2 story motel on the outside (my husband thought maybe it was built when WDW opened-early to mid 70's)but while we were there they were installing new carpets and our room was beautiful and one of the cleanest we have ever stayed in. As for the windows-there wasn't any grime on them when we were there, they were slightly tinted though which was nice. We had 2 double beds and a double sleeper/sofa, the room had a mini fridge, microwave and in room safe. Bathroom was tiny and would be the biggest thing wrong with the motel-it does need updating and it is very tiny but it was clean. There is a huge vanity area-but take your "over the door" shoebag to store things in anyways, it just saves cleaning up all the time. The room was immaculate, the pool areas were absolutely beautiful and the pool was so warm for December! There is a playground area, arcade and more that we didn't see--it's a huge property--I honestly can't say enough about it.
We stayed in room 720(I think) and it is further back on the property so it was so quiet. The people who work there are very friendly and obliging. Angel's Diner is an excellent place for breakfast(wouldn't know about other meals as we only went for the breakfast buffet). Apparently the seafood is really good but we never tried it as we were in the parks all of the time!
Yes the fence around the pool could use new paint and some of the furniture may be slightly scuffed but it was nothing that made us not enjoy our stay!
Some have even suggested that people put negative reviews to keep people away from this motel because they like it quiet and to themselves--don't know if this is true but it didn't work with us! When we go back we will stay here again-no doubt about it! Hope this helps!

One of the pool areas--our area and pool was bigger but I can't find the picture!

Thank you so much! I am just so wary about booking something site unseen. We had a really really bad experience on our first trip to Myrtle Beach, I had sent for every brochure you could think of, looked at every hotel in the Stay and Play book I received, and picked one that looked clean, but within our budget. We got there, and it was horrible. I literally sat down and cried while my husband called the Chamber of Commerce. Long story short, we ended up in a nice clean hotel, drastically discounted through the commerce, which is what saved our vacation. But my husband is really wary now as am I. I figured since it was a Holiday Inn, that it couldnt be that bad. We are not fussy people, to me as long as I have a clean room, I am fine. With 4 kids ages 15 to 4, we wanted to get to Disney before our two oldest (15 & 13) were too "old" (can you ever be too old, haha?!) to go, and while it was still magical for our two youngest(8 and 4). I will say the first response I got scared me and made me question whether or not to stay there, but yours helped. But I thank anyone for any feedback, as like I said, I have never stayed there before, and any info I can get is greatly appreciated. This may be the only vacation we get to all six go there together, and I just want it to be great. Thanks again for your replies.

I'm another one who had a good experience at HI Nikki Bird. Got it on Priceline last April, and was really worried because of some negative reviews I read, but found it very nice. Our room looked like it had been recently refurbished, and I liked the cheerful tropical decor. (Having read that it might be run-down I closely scrutinized the carpet and fixtures upon going in!) It was very clean, and we enjoyed the pool area---well kept, and nice landscaping. Short ride to the parks and no trouble with check-in or housekeeping. I thought it was a very good value, especially with the micro/fridge.

We will stay at "Holiday Inn Nikki Bird" from May 22 - 28 and what I worry about is not the hotel or the rooms it's the shuttle service to the park... :)

I received an answer from the hotel towards this topic:

In regards to your questions upon check in with your check in packet you will receive a shuttle schedule to the parks. This changes monthly based on Seasons in Orlando however they do have a shuttle that runs prior the gates opening currently and I assume they do that during other seasons.

If you wish to go back over to the parks for fireworks we do not have shuttle late in the evening only for morning hours you will need to speak with our guest services desk and they can let you know what shuttle we have and there is a fee I don't know the costs again its based on seasons.

I do hope this helps you. Should you need anything else please let us know.

Regards,

I worry about 2 things:

1) Do you think its possible to be at the Parks before they open their gates?

2) What about shuttle service back to the hotel after Wishes, Fantasmic and IllumiNations? Do we have to take a taxi. I don't know what the hotel means with "speak with our guest services desk"... do they organise a shuttle but we will have to pay for it??

Maybe you have some tips for me conserning "Holiday Inn Nikki Bird" - getting to the parks without a car.... :flower:

Thank you very much!
Chris

I hadnt really thought about that, since we will be driving, but maybe someone else will post about the shuttle service.
