Anyone stay at POR recently?

We are booked to stay here in May/June -- now all I read lately are bad reviews of POR, saying the hotel grounds are beautiful, but the rooms are run down and dirty! Should I be concerned? We had considered paying extra for a Deluxe, but decided not to as we won't be at the resort all that much to justify the extra cost...but I was at least hoping the room would be clean! What kind of experience has anyone had recently at this hotel?

Don't change! It is a great resort. we have stayed there the last three summers and will be there again next month. I will admit that two trips ago we saw some trash outside one of the rooms a few times that we felt shouldn't have been there but we still loved out stay. We have never had any problems with our room and we have stayed in three different buildings. We love it there!

We (five) were there 2/2-2/9 (Alligator Bayou) and had a wonderful stay. We stayed at POR last year too and have no complaints. The room wasn't dirty and service was just fine...we did have one day of less than complete maid work but it wasn't anything huge.

The grounds can be confusing at first...take your time and learn which way you need to go. The paths wind through the resort and all of the trees restrict your view to find the main building.

There are several pools and the smaller ones have never been crowded, even this year when temps were in the 80's the entire week.

The new food court is fabulous and filled with variety for breakfast/lunch/dinner, and has lots of goodies, too! One order from the pasta bar provides more than enough food for two. It gets pretty crowded for breakfast until closer to the changeover to lunch but it's far from being unmanageable.

It must have been the place to stay during the week we were there. We're park rats and most evenings closed whatever park we were in, along with what seemed like everyone else at POR. The bus service was tremendous. One evening there were 8 buses within 15 minutes taking the line of people back to POR. The other resort guests had to be a bit jealous as hundreds of us continually piled onto buses to get back to POR.

The boat to DTD is a nice change of pace...slower than the bus but it's a pretty and serene cruise.

We do not spend a lot of time at the resort but with the weather we had this year we did spend a bit more time in the pools. Our only other resort has been the cabins at Fort Wilderness...completely different atmosphere but I'd stay there again, too.

I'm sure you will find plenty of people with good and bad to say about everything. I can't say enough good about POR and probably left something out.

Have a magical trip!

I agree with the previous poster. We stayed at POR Alligator Bayou 01-24 to 02-02. We think it is a wonderful resort. This was our second stay. Nothing was dirty and we really liked the counter service they offered (it was not open last year when we went). We never have had any complaints about the buses. I love it there.

However, we just purchased DVC and we probably won't stay there very much any more. I am very excited about DVC, but POR is like my first home at WDW and I will miss staying there!

Just returned yesterday and had only one day that the mousekeeping was "not complete". They forgot to empty one of the trash barrels (and ironically they also didn't take their tip that we left them either). Strange.

The room didn't seem run down to us at all and we had no complaints about any service or cleanliness. We loved the resort!

We stayed at the FQ side and loved it as well.. we walked over to riverside and loved it... Best MOD Resort in my opinion... the boat to DD is great.

We were there in February and the room was very clean. We were not crazy about the layout of the resort, however, and switched resorts the first day. The room really was great though.

Interesting. What building were you in? :confused3

We were there last June and the resort was just fine. Our room was always clean. Good food choices, nice pools.

One thing that I will say is that the resort is VERY spread out. In fact, we couldn't find our room when we first got there.

Where did you switch to? Did WDW give you a "deal" on the new resort or did you have to pay rack rate?

We were at POR Jan 08 AB bld 14 and Dec 07 Acadian House, beautiful rooms both times. I really doubt you'll get a run down or dirty room - but if you do ask to be moved.

I Have A Family Of Five And We Have Stayed There In '05, '06, & '07. We Love This Resort And Will Stay There Again.

We stayed in January. It was awesome!!! We stayed in Parterre Place. We were close to everything and it is such a relaxing place. DH said that's his favorite resort of them all. Being married to a WDW nut, he's tried almost all of them!! We will definitely be going back there since he loved it so much.

OP, keep your reservation! Where did you see these reviews? Regardless, a bad review will be posted more often than a good one. And once someone gets irritated, they will notice each and every thing that goes wrong, even slightly wrong. We all do that, I know I do! I love this resort, we haven't stayed there in a couple of years, but I just today moved my ASMU reservation over to POR for our April trip. I have seen some negative reviews on Tripadvisor for POR and every other resort at WDW. In all of my stays at WDW I have never had a dirty room or a room that I thought was very rundown. I have had some stays where I preferred a certain theming but in all we have been completely satisfied. I am not worried and looking forward to my trip and I hope you will too!

I also agree, if you check in and find your room not up to par, call and ask to have the problem taken care of even if it means they find you a new room. Disney customer service is among the best around, they want you to be happy.

Thanks everyone for easing my mind! I read the bad reviews about POR on trip advisor...there was a recent one with some photos showing a room in pretty poor shape. We are staying at POR in AB and are very excited to try this resort and will hope for the best!
