I have read about it. Suppose to be on Bay Lake? Where is this? Is it every night or just certain times of the year? What time does it start? Any info on it would be great. We are going in December.

Subject to the weather conditions, the parade usually began after full darkness (late June/early July). I remember seeing it while we ate at Ohana's last year out the windows. Depending on December's schedule, your CM will be able to give you all the details at check-in. :cool1:

We ate dinner at Kona one evening in October and went out on the beach, sat in lounge chairs and some on hammocks and watched the MK fireworks from the beach. While we were waiting the water pageant passed by on Bay Lake. Very cute, especially for little ones.

We actually make it a point to see the EWP on every trip; it's certainly not something that you would consider "not-to-be-missed", but we like to relax on the beach at the Poly and watch the floats. Really like the music, too.

We saw this when we stayed at the contemporary. Honestly I would not wait around to see it. If you happen to catch it great, but otherwise it is not worth waiting to see it. I found it to be kind of cheesy. But if you are staying at the Contemporary or Poly or WL (I think may have it) and you have really young kids it might be worth the 10 minutes or so it takes to watch it. If I remember correctly the water pagent is like a parade (on the water) of different metal animal forms (outlined in lights) that passes by and music plays. I think that was all (but I could be completely wrong).

It takes about an hour and a half to make the circuit around the MK resorts. I think it usually starts at 9:00 and ends up around 10:30. Not entirely sure about the times or the route, but I think it starts at the Poly, passes the GF (pretty much right near boca chica), goes to the Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness, then finishes up at the Contemporary.

It's fun, but actually I think it's one of those little things at disney that is most fun if you don't know about it in advance. Remember those days? The first time we saw it, we were staying in the contemporary on the bay side. We heard weird electric music one night and it bugged us. The next night I heard it again and thought, "what is that." We looked out the window, and there it was -- a neat surprise. If you're planning for it, you might be a little disappointed. It's a diversion.

On our trip last year, we ate at OHanas on our first night. DH had been picking on me mercilessly for weeks prior because of my obsessive planning (thanks to DIS, I now realize that I am not alone  , and that planners really do have more fun...), but when we checked in at OHanas and people all around us were getting turned away, not only for that night, but for later in the week as well, he started to realize that I had been...what's the word??? Oh, yes........RIGHT!!!

Anyway, after dinner, I suggested that we explore the Poly a bit, and we ended up on the beach. By this time DS (9 mos) was about ready to nurse, so I found a secluded hammock, DD (6) played on the sand and DH continued to explore a little bit. As we sat on the dark beach, virtually all alone, with a perfect view of the castle, the EWP started. DD was awestruck, DH was moved by the magic of the moment, and I...well, I was still basking in being right ;) At the end of the pageant, DD turned to me and said in a stage whisper "Mommy, that was a magical memory!"

Truly not one DH or I will forget. It was our kind of deep-sigh-we're-finally-here-and-this-will-be-great beginning of the trip relaxation.

Thanks everyone. It does sound like something to fall upon rather than plan. But I think, our first night- we will arrive OKW take the ferry to DTD for some shopping then take the bus over to the Poly to "look around" take a walk on the white sand and "happen" upon the parade. Now I just have to keep it a secret!!! :rolleyes1
:hourglass

I just heard about this parade from a cm while I was making dining reservations for our disney trip. She told me to try out Kona's for dessert in the Poly, go outside and enjoy a hammock and the parade! :) :lovestruc

We have seen it a couple of times. The first time was during an October trip. We had stayed at MK late one night and when we exited the park, it passed by the MK front entrance. DD loved it. It was bright and festive, but like a prior posted stated, it is not something that you should make a trip over from one of the other resorts just to see.

We just got back from WL (Room 3861). Our first night we decided to get the kids in early in prep for our first day at the parks. Finally get them settled in bed about 9:35 and then I hear this loud music - cursing my rude neighbors in the next room - how dare they play their TV so loud! Then I realize it's coming from outside - we get out of bed and peek behind the curtain to see this really cool dragon followed by other creatures, fish, flags, etc. The kids loved this really neat surprise!!! The beach at WL is another great place to watch it.

Have you seen this website?

http://allearsnet.com/tp/ewp.htm

It has really good descriptions, where the parade is at at what times, and even some pictures!

We really enjoyed this and I wouldn't have even known about it if it wasn't for being a DISboarder!! :thumbsup2

If you happen to catch it great, but otherwise it is not worth waiting to see it. I found it to be kind of cheesy.

I have to nicely disagree.
I think it's pretty, the lights create a cool graphic effect on the water and the Disney music which is mostly assoicated with each barge (as it lights up) is really well done (considering it's washed thru a synthesizer).

As to the 'cheese factor' I say bring it on. It's cute, fun, harmless and is a WDW classic in it's own right (having run for some 30 years now). The second string of barges could perhaps be used in a different manner--at least at times--but I'll never forget seeing the EWP a few weeks after 9-11 when the Grand Old Flag music and lights started up - afterwards you could hear people clapping, cheering (and crying) all around.

My recommendation is if you can work it in, don't miss it - it only lasts about 8 minutes per viewing location.

This is a great way to spend an inexpensive evening at Disney and still get a bit of magic! We do this on an off-park day - have dinner at Ohana or Kona, explore the Poly (lots of fun shops and once we saw a fire-twirler) then go down to the beach and watch the fireworks from Mk and the EWP. The beach is usually empty (we go in Feb) and it's very relaxing.

Considering the prices we pay for a family of 5 to go to the parks, etc. we enjoy this cheap yet FUN evening!

DW and I actually got a pretty up-close view of the EWP, travelling back to the Poly after our Wishes! cruise this past August. Our boat captain crossed in front of the lead barge and got honked at by the lead EWP barge, and admonished by the captain of the Grand1 that was nearby us. It was actually pretty funny. I was happy to finally be able to see this attraction, as I'd been reading about it in the old Birnbaum guides since about 1979.

Seen this water parade many times while at the Poly, we'd find a spot on the beach and watch it go by, pretty lights and annimation of lights, kids really enjoyed it.

We saw it when we stayed at the WL. I had planned for it. I knew it was going to be at WL at 9:35 so we walked down to the dock and watched it. I loved it as well as the kids. I plan to watch it again when we go down in Dec.

In January, it started at 10:00PM every evening at Contemporary. It is rinky-dink, but children love it. My son cried the night before we left WDW because he missed it that night (he had seen it for 8 nights before that!).

I am required to see the EWP on each and every trip. :thumbsup2 It is not a hardship at all. We plan a dinner at one of the lagoon restaurants and finish in time for a leisurely trip to the beach to find a comfortable spot and usually some friendly conversation.

The only painful part is the transportation back to our resort but that is usually made better by good company as well. :sunny:

We have two visits with the EWP, Korny but Kool, on our next trip. Hope to see you there!

my family and I loved it when I was a kid. For a long time I thought that they had gotten rid of it, we never heard anyone talk about it anymore. But while down there last october I stayed at the contemporary and my sister and I were walking back from the main building and BAM the show started. I cant tell you how big the smile on my face was. We caught it 2 more times while we were down there. They've update the music for a couple of the segements, but otherwise its pure classic Disney.
