Anyone seen "Grizzly Man"?

It is about the life and ultimately the death of Timothy Treadwell who "for thirteen summers lived unarmed among the grizzleys and filmed his adventures in the wild for his final five seasons". It won the Sundance Film Festival's award for the Best Documentary.

How gruesome is it?

I've read a lot about it. And know a few people who have seen it.

The coronor and director describe what they heard on the tape but they don't play any of the tape's audio. From what I've heard you hear the gruesome deaths described but there are no visuals.

I won't make it to the theatre to see it but will probablly put it in the netflix cue.

The 2 people I know who have seen it are both movie people (a reviewer and screen writer/director) and the both liked it.

We did see it. Beautiful footage of Alaska, the Grizzlies & the foxes - but that man had some serious issues.

I watched a story about him on one the news programs. The guy did manage to live and deal with those bears for 13 years. It really is amazing. He wasn't frightened of them and they were not threatened by him. Unfortunately, the bear that killed him and his girlfriend was an old bear that had a hard time finding food. Those people were easy prey. The guy on the program listened to the tape of their deaths. Somehow the camera got turned on, but the lens cap was on. He broke down while listening. He asked the guy's mother to promise that she would never listen to the tape. She never had. It must have been horrible.

Prior to his move to Alaska, Timothy Tredwell was an alchoholic. He gave it up when he developed this amazing relationship with the bears. I think the man had some definate issues, but I think what he managed to do and film is amazing. Not a good way to die, however.

I saw it. I was rooting for the bear. Treadwell drove me nuts. I found him to be self serving and "patronizing" to the animals.


If ya'll are looking for a great documentary, look for MURDERBALL . It is an amazing documentary about "quadraplegic rugby". It was a gritty compelling storry about a group of paralyzed men who eventually make it to the Paralympics in Greece. IF you are the type of person who sees a person in a wheelchair and feels pity.....it may change your mind to see only potential.

No, but I heard about it on Ebert & Ropert. I heard that it was kind of gruesome but a great documentary.

I totally agree. Bear Country Survival 101 - expect the bears to be more aggressive just before and after hibernation.

Ok, I was being extremely generous with the term "issues". When he got sentimental over the bear droppings, I could no longer give him the benefit of the doubt.
