We just got back from seeing Avatar and all I can say is WOW!

Just a beautiful, stunning movie. When I first saw the trailers I wasn't sure what to think. It looked kind of phony and too much computer generated characters for me but seeing it in 3D Cameron really has made a great movie and I'm extremely hard to please (I still compare all movies to my favorite---the Godfather)

My DS and I are going to see it tomorrow in Imax. Like you, I couldn't get a feel for it, but with all the great reviews, I'm anxious to see it now. James Cameron is my favorite director, i.e. Titantic, True Lies, Terminator [all T's, I see] :cutie:

It's amazing on the small screen. It's going to knock you out on the Imax. Post what you think of it after you see it.

We took the family yesterday to see it in Imax 3D.
None of us were completely excited to see it, but we all really enjoyed it. From a preview my daughter saw she thought it was going to be 'corny' but this morning she told me that she wants a copy when it comes out on DVD.
The time passed quickly, which to me is the sign of a good movie. Visually very, very interesting.

I was really going to see it too after seeing the trailers that looked kind of hokey. My wife won two movie tickets so we decided to check it out and really enjoyed it also.

I didn't think I would enjoy it, but I did. The story was good and the visuals were amazing.

I just got home from seeing it. I'm old enough to have seen the original Star Wars back in 1977, and this film gives me the same feeling that I had then. It's a HUGE leap forward in moviemaking and for that alone it's worth the price of the ticket. Stunning visuals, I really felt taken to an entire new world. I didn't feel the time pass at all, I was so engrossed in that universe.

However, I would give Cameron the same advice I would have given Lucas back in 1977-for the love of God hire a writer!! Brilliant guys, both of them but they can't write dialog for crap.

I thought it was funny that, even though the movie is 2 hours and 40 minutes long, it zoomed by and no one left their seat. Then when it was over the whole theater ran to the bathroom.

I remember, as a little kid---I'm showing my age here---seeing Mary Poppins and how I felt then. Same thing. Unbelievable visual movie.

The only downside for me was that at least two people brought infants-they were both at the age where they were making a good deal of noise-both happy and sad. Fortunately, you only heard them during the quieter scenes, but it still was enough to pull you back into the movie theatre and break that connection.

I get that sitters are expensive and movies are expensive...but is it really fair to the rest of us who also paid for those expensive tickets to have your child crying or making noise during the movie?

We went to a concert last week and someone bought their one month old baby to it. Amazing how stupid people can be.

As a PP who was going to see it last week in IMAX - we went over there twice to see the earliest show [11:00 a.m.] each on a working weekday and both times the line snacked around the building. I guess I'm going to have to wait till some of the hype calms down.

Now I'm dying to see Sherlock Holmes . . .

I saw it and thought it was good. There are so many people RAVING about it. The acting was good, but the leads true accent kept showing through. The flora and fauna were cool. Some parts of the movie seemed clichè. I would see it in theaters because it won't be nearly as good watching it in your living room.

The story was predictable, and actually, I think I have actually seen the film before, but it was called Dances with Wolves...

I thought the message was a little too preachy "they killed their mother" really???

A PP said that a writer would have enhanced the film, and I agree. All the visual effects in the world can't make up for a predictable and simple story line, that quite frankly has been done better.
