Target had a deal on the ipad 1st gen, but it ended on Sunday. I told my friend I'd ask here...

she only needs 16g, wi-fi (won't pay for internet access separately). She didn't jump at the 1st gen package deal at Target because she thinks new apps won't necessarily be supported by the 1st gen. I don't know if Apple products are like that or not, but she thinks so.

I know prices for the ipad 2 will be the same everywhere, but is anyone offering any kind of incentive to "buy it here"??

Don't know of any deals but usually APple supports the odler [product for a few years with updates. we have the original ipad and there are often updates so it can support the newer apps and such.

i think sometimes verizon or at&T runs a special but i am sure that is for the 3g enabled one. perhaps she could check ebay? maybe people who have the older one upgraded and are selling the original one.

One of my boys wants an IPAD2 for his b-day so I have been looking too. I think I want to buy it new for the warranty instead of ebay or craigslist.
I believe every place sells them for the same price, but I think if I buy it at Best Buy or Office Max- I can earn rewards points for it.
I keep looking but that is the only incentive I could figure out.

I also need an IPOD touch so I have been keeping my eye out for both.

Hopefully someone else knows of a better deal.

Does anyone think it's worth $100 more to get the 2? And I agree about the warranty, 2boysnme

I bought DH a first gen refurbished from Apple for $350.00, free shipping. It comes with the same warranty as a brand new one, the back case part and front glass are both new, and it comes in new packaging. He LOVES it, has had it since March and I have no regrets about not spending the extra to get the 2nd gen. You can't tell it's refurbished in any way.

i may get roasted for this but IMO IPAD is a waste of $$$. unless you are a traveling salesperson any other cheaper mobile computing device will suffice and keep $$$ in your pocket!!

I love my iPad. I got a refurb one. I also sold my nook because I didn't need both. I didn't think it was worth it, but I have lots of friends that upgraded and love their ipad2!

Love my iPad. I am on it daily. We had the service plan. My iPad died after 7 months. Best Buy upgraded us to an iPad 2. It was the same price as when we paid for my iPad 1. I have the 3G service as well.

I'm thinking about buying one too. I was thinking Target will have the best deal for me because of the 5% discount with the Red Card.

There are no direct discounts from Apple on iPad2s.

Why would anyone roast you? You're entitled to your opinion. That said, I have an iPhone 4 and and iPad 2 and the iPhone just doesn't come close to using the iPad. It was well worth the cost to me. And I'm not a traveling salesperson!

Ditto - I have the iPhone 4, iPod Touch and the iPad 2...and the iPad 2 is nothing like the others. I bought mine from Target and took advantage of the 5% discount.

I tried one of the generic 7" "aPad" tabs before I bought my 1st gen iPad, and as someone who has a basis for comparison, I have to disagree with you on the bolded. Granted, the tablet market has grown quite a bit since I made both purchases, and if I had it to do over again, I might have gone with an Android based equivalent instead, but the advice I'd give to anyone in the market now would be to run screaming away from any brand tablet that features a resistive touch screen. Capacitive (or "multi touch") screen technology is far superior, but you will pay a higher price for it, no matter the name on the box. The aPad that I started out with, while a great deal at < $200, was useless to me because the resistive screen made typing at any decent speed nearly impossible. All it did was frustrate me.

A few PPs have interpreted this to mean an Android tablet (and I'd agree, if you get an Android tablet, definitely a capacitive screen, not resistive)

Personally, I love iPads (to play with in the store), I think they're neat devices, and fun. That said, for the same cost or less, I can get myself a fully functioning laptop that is much more powerful. For content consumption, the iPad is great, but for content creation, an actual laptop may be the better choice.

All of that said, generally you aren't going to find too much in the way of discounts on Apple products. Refurbs and first gen models you might, but for current production model, not so much.

I used a 2nd generation I phone until last month... Never had any issues with it not being supported.

I have a refurb 1st gen IPAD and am very happy. Haven't really seen a reason to get the new one.

I have an idea. You don't critize how folks spend thier money and we won't critize how you spend yours!

We waited for the 2nd generation to come out because of the camera. My husband does travel (no, he's not a traveling salesman) and with the camera and with me downloading Facetime on my Macbook, we can now video chat while he's away. And he gets to see my son and I, which he loves more than just a phone call.

If you have a Discover Card, you can order through Shop Discover and get 5% back in cash rewards!

Same as the Target deal, just another option. :thumbsup2

I thought I read in the fine print that it would not apply to iPad purchases. I'm not positive though...

Bought an IPad2 last month...LOVE IT!
We'll be adding another this fall. One of the best features is the "instant on" ability....fun and function!..
(this is our first Apple "computer"....26 year PC user)

The Ipad2 is so hot right now, it's hard just to get your hands on one, so I doubt you'll find anyone with a discount. It took me 2 weeks of calling the 3 Apple stores in my area every day until I finally got the one I was looking for. That being said, it was well worth the hunt. I've been addicted to my iphone since the day it was first released. The Ipad2 is even better. :lovestruc
