On NBC this morning? They decided to be deployed together, but they have FIVE children at home!!! They had their kids and parents on from Missouri, and it was so strange. They asked the kids to talk with their parents via the NBC link, but none of them would say anything. The deployed parents seemed fine with everything, but the grandparents and kids at home were definately "strained" to say the least! It was a very uncomfortable thing to watch!:(

I don't think I could do that to my children. It's bad enough if one parent is deployed, nevermind two. I didn't see the interview, how old were the children?

I started to watch it but I had to leave the room. It was tearing me up. I can't imagine what it must be like for both parents to be away like that. Sad. :(

The youngest was a toddler and the oldest a teenager. I cannot believe they would ask to do this!

I thought it was insensitive too. The 14 year old looked like she wanted to cry. She never said a word.

It was tugging at my heart during the whole interview. I agree that the oldest seemed like she wanted to cry. I hope this family is reuninted with no long lasting effects.

I can't believe both parents had to go! They certainly were not thinking of their children! Not to mention the strain of an older couple trying to cope with all these kids!

This is truly sad! :(

I was bothered by the cavalier attitude of the parents and the obvious distraught feelings of the children and grandparents.

I watched and kept thinking that if both parents are in the same place and a tragedy happens those kids may be left w/o any parents!:(
Better in this situation to keep at least one parent out of harms way. What really gets me is that the parents CHOSE to do it this way!!
The 14yo daughter definately had been crying and the grandfather was overcome by tears twice. Very sad to watch.

I did not see this interview.. so could you fill me in .... Which branch of service? and the couple jointly ASKED to be deployed to the Middle East?

My ds, the mother of his son and her dh were all TOLD they would be deploying within weeks of one another. They are all in different units aboard the same base. The mom has an 19 month and 4 month old ds's. They each went to their commands to discuss the situation. My ds had done his overseas rotation and the other two have infantry and chemical weapon jobs. Ds is currently on standby and the other two have been deployed.. now both of the children are with Her parents as my ds can not care for them at this time due to increased committments at his job aboard base. He wants to get his son back with him asap but this may not be possible due to pending military orders. All service members are required to have a Emergency care plan set up for their dependents AT ALL TIMES. It is an extremely difficult situation for all involved. It is part of their military committment from the day they sign on. Equal rights, Equal pay, Equal committments.. whew.....

That poor family. Not only for the kids, but the gransparents also.
