Anyone see Goblet of Fire yet?

I've got to agree that if you haven't read the book, you quite possibly could be lost in this movie.

We saw it at midnight last night. We liked the parts that made it into the movie, with the exception of one incident that was MUCH better in the book (the movie dragged this part out too long and way over dramatized it, in our opinion). We were sad about some of the stuff that didn't make it into the movie at all but with a 2 hour 40 minute running time, there's no way they could cram anything else in there. The time flew by very quickly and the movie really didn't drag at all.

I went to the midnight show and I'm fixin' to go to a 4:45 show this afternoon.

As a movie, it's terrific. I went with someone who does NOT read the books, and she loved it. I do have to admit, however, I was a little disappointed that it strayed so far from the book. Not in plot (I guess) but by leaving things out or just barely touching points that I've always thought were essential to "getting" the story.


It IS great, and movie lovers will love it - I just think that many parts of it were much better to read than to see. If you want details, just let me know.

Oh, and for those who have seen it, tell me: Does Emma Watson have the same script for ALL the movies? I feel like all Hermione ever does is wear that worried look that says, "No Harry, in the wizarding world, it's bad." I love her, and I love Emma as her, but I just wondered if anyone else felt that, maybe, just maybe, she could chang things up a little with the way she delivers lines.

First of all I saw the movie today and it was excellant.

Although I know better I am gonna respond to the comments about Kids in the Theatre.

PG 13 means it is up to the Discretion of the childs parent. Not the parent sitting behind them. And you can bet if anyone had anything to say to me at a 10am show. They sure would have gotten an earful.

Now as to that.... My 5 year old twins saw this movie today with Myself and Auntie. older ds was in school. Reason being if one wanted to leave and one stay we had one adult for each child. And if both wanted to leave older ds would not miss out. (he will be taken later)
Both boys enjoyed the movie never wanted to exit the movie should they miss somthing. After the movie which I considered pretty scary,by the way.... The verdict was this..... Zathura that they saw last week was deemed scarier by both boys. One wants to see Zathura again one does not. Both want to go back to see Harry Potter tonight with older DS. It depends on the child and the parent.

I just hope parents realize this and don't bring their 3 year olds to the movie. The last time I was at the movies for Harry there was a family behind us with a 3 and 5 year old...too young, IMO. (No flames please, JMO)

you all successfully talked me out of taking my 3 and 5 y/o to a screening last nite and a colleague w/older kids took them and they LOVED it. my colleague did say a number of young kids had to leave during the movie and that it's got some gore it in.

my 3 and 5 y/os adore harry but watch it at home - it's not to scary if you can skip the scary parts

2.5 hrs is a LONG movie for little kids!

we are about to walk out the door to go see it. Seeing the 3:45 show. hopefully it isn't too crowded because DH is coming in straight from work and 2won't make it until 3:40. Looks like 16 DS and 8 DD will be holding seats while I wait out front with DH's ticket.

That's fine...but I'm assuming that if one of your kids got scared and started crying/whatever...you'd exit the theater, correct?

you know...there are *some* parents that wouldn't...thinking "i paid good money for this...you're gonna watch it".

this happened to me at the Grinch when that came out in theaters...that first shot of Jim Carrey as the grinch (full screen head shot) scared ALOT of kids, and they were crying and loud, and parents didn't remove them.

so...I hope you understand that's the stance most people are taking on it. You know your kids best.

I agree, however, at the last Harry movie there was a family behind me with children of about 3 and 5 (as I posted before) who were obviously scared from the movie. They kept talking and fidgeting and the parents just sat there and let them do it. They were wondering why Harry did this and whoever did that...I stated it was JMO that the younger kids should not see something that is trailered as being the darkest Harry movie yet. It is definitely up to the parents...but, I'm 30 and I might have to keep a light on at night

getting back to the movie...can I ask one "vague" question...

they didn't "gloss over" who Mad Eye really was...did they?

I was just saying how some people feel about younger children being brought...and parents not 'reading' their children right...

I took my 9 year old, but I won't even consider taking my 5 yo - he was scared in parts of Chicken Little! I know he couldn't handle a film like this.

It's not for me to say if other parents should take their kids to see it -- it ended up being not an intense or scary as I thought it would be, and my 9yo was only bothered by one bit (in the Maze...don't know if people want spoilers here).

Stinkerbelle - they do explain about Moody, but really quickly, and not in a great deal of detail. And that whole situation doesn't end the way we know it does in the book.

Free4life, my theater did show the Narnia trailer. I never read those books, but the movie does look stunning - the visuals are really amazing. My daughter wants to see it, just based on the trailer.

Let me guess - the 1st task? If so, I agree. And I couldn't help but wonder what bits of the book could have made it into the film, if they didn't go on and on with that scene.

The more I think about it, it's not simply a matter of "oh it isn't like the book", but that some of the changes they made really miss the spirit of the story. I would have to go into some spoilerish details to explain, so I am not sure if I should do that.

DD and I saw it today. Overall, we loved it! I do have to agree with everyone who says if you didn't read the book, you'll be a little lost. I think they left out a lot of important pieces of the puzzle. I was also a little disappointed with the ending. DD wants to go see it again, so I guess that says something! Enjoy!

Dh and I saw the 10am show this morning. We loved it, thought it was great! I thought they did a pretty good job of cramming all they could into it. It's a long book! I do think I like this one better than all the others, but it's still new so it's hard to tell yet. I didn't think this was as dark as the last 2. There was a Narnia preview before ours, there were tons of previews before ours, it was annoying! Also, lots of little kids, but I didn't hear any of them get scared, but they did get bored. Lots of running up and down the stairs.

We saw the movie last night. A lot of the subplots were eliminated. I don't think every subplot needed to be in the movie, but certain ones would of enhanced the movie and made it easier to understand. My older DS and my DH - who had never read the books - couldn't follow the storyline. The scenes were choppy and topics were lightly touched on in an effort to keep the movie moving along. It was a long movie and a lot of material to cover. Its a dark film and I loved the special effects. We were reading trivia about this movie on www.imdb.com. Apparently at one time, they were considering breaking this into two movies a few months apart in order to cover all the material. I have to wonder if this would have been better than the skimming of subjects that occurred in this film. I can't imagine how they're going to do Order of the Pheonix...that book was longer! Overall did we like it? Of course!
