We just bought a new sofa & loveseat without the store scotchguarding.
Has anyone done it themselves?
I was thinking of buying 3 cans and spraying it on

If you decide to do it yourself, please let me know how it goes. I just bought some new furniture too.

i used to work at a furniture store and we would routinly suggest this over paying the manufacturer's outrageous fee for doing it. just do a test spot in a hidden area to make sure there is nothing in the fabric that reacts badly (some fabrics stain with so much as a water spill). make sure you vacuum the sofa to get off any dust, and stay the reccommended distance (on the can) in spraying.

My mom did it once. It does repell water for a while. She poured on a cup & it blopped right off in a big drop. However, it does not repell dirt & soil. It gets dirty just as quickly. Dirt collects in between fibers -- that's different from waterproofing.

If you are going to do it, make sure you ventilate really well while spraying. Kids sniff the Scotchguard to get high. :faint:

Most, MOST upholstery fabrics are sold to the furniture manufacturers with soil release ALREADY applied. Chances are VERY good that you already have a ScotchGuard type soil release applied to your furniture.
