Anyone sad that the Hunchback show is gone?

another veteran who misses hunchback...

I hated the movie and was reluctant to see the show...but fell in love with it from the first time I saw it.

Heard they closed it due to low crowd volume....I don't believe that for a minute..show was always packed..had to get there 30 minutes ahead of time just to get a seat.
vocals, acting, etc, absolutley broadway quality.

although will bring you back a bit....

the show before it was pocohantos....which also was exceptional....absolutely breathtaking.
that closed due to people protesting the inequalities of the american indian...

sometimes I hate when disney succumbs to pressure from outside sources

the car show is nice but MGM really needs a musical show....Indy is more stunts and fantasmic..well is just fantasmic...indescribable.

yet I feel MGM is definitely missing a true show..
which they had with pocohantos and hunchback

Beauty & Beast is cute...but in no comparison to the broadway show.

hmmm...

maybe we should start to petition for a new show

any suggestions?

my vote would be Peter Pan

partly it was beastly hot in the stage area without much air, and I wonder if heat problems might have been part of it.

I steered my DD past the Playhouse Disney venue last week without her seeing it (she's 9 and likes JoJo but she really didn't need to see it) and thought that if Hunchback had been in air conditioning it still might be on

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED the Hunchback show (and the pre-show). I miss it VERY much!! Let's all write to WDW and ask them to bring it back!!!

They might listen to us, after all we do give them all our money!!

We also loved Hunchback and Pocahantas before that. For us B&B was not as intricate or developed as the other two which were more like plays. We would always get there early to get a good seat close up as the theater was always packed............

I am so sad to see it gone. Don't get me wrong, I love Beauty and the Beast...but I wish they would bring back Hunchback too. That was such an amazing show. Left me with goosebumps and in tears each time that I saw it.

This thread really brings back a lot of emotions! Our family just loved this production and was very sad when it closed. We also wrote and voiced our displeasure and actually talked to somone at Disney, but nothing ever came of it.

At least I can watch it on our family movies. I remember holding the video camera during the entire show and wondering why am I doing this! Now I'm very glad that I did because we watch it all the time.

We miss it!! It was one of our favorites!! My DD use to love Quasi!!!! She even had a doll of him!! People thought it was soooo strange. :)

I was a huge fan as well. As someone already said, the show was Broadway-quality. I also wrote to protest the closing and received a phone call back from Disney. I said that I hoped something of equal quality would eventually replace the show. A stunt show was NOT what I had in mind... I'm sure it's entertaining and I'll definitely go to see it on my September trip, but I'll always miss Hunchback. The BatB show is good, but it's just not on the same level of performance. My son is a musical theater actor, and he said that the one job he ever coveted at WDW was ANY part in Hunchback.

Although DH and I are not big fans of the Hunchback movie, we LOVED the show at MGM! It was THE best show I've seen at WDW...even better than the Lion King, IMO. We were both so sad to see it go. I know BatB is a much more popular movie, but the BatB show does not even come close to the Hunchback show. I would have rathered see BatB leave.

It was my favorite, favorite show!!!!! I watched it every year I went and was so, so sad when they cancelled it. I went the years after and going by the stage always felt so bummed. I absolutely loved the staging and choregraphy for it. Such a great show. Ely

This was the absolute best show! The vocals gave me shivers up my spine. I decided to tape the show on our last day at Disney, but wouldn't you know it, halfway thru a thunderstorm hit. Water was pouring down outside and they stopped the show, so I never got the ending on tape. I'm so disappointed. B&B just does not compare IMHO.

DissneyDi - IMHO the stunt show is a huge waste of time and money on Disney's part - not very enjoyable. Hope you like it better.

I can't go to that part of the Studios without getting misty thinking of that show. I have such wonderful memories of seeing Hunchback with friends (hi LindaBabe!) or even on my own. The last day was terrible and wonderful. It was in September and I hadn't done much except go to work because of my allergies knocking me out. But I made sure I got to the Studios on that day for all 4 shows. I don't think there was a dry eye in the house at the end of the last show....

I have to agree Hunchback was one of the best shows ever at WDW.
We had a friend who was a gypsy in the show and she took us backstage one time to meet the cast and get some great photos. I never missed that show.
It is to bad they took it away and put in another stunt show. Where is the Disney magic in a car jumping off a ramp? :confused3 Indiana Jones is bad enough and now they have another stunt show. (just my opinion)

My favorite show ever at WDW - can't believe they closed it and yet the theater is now the support system for the San Francisco skyline. Sad.

I was lucky enough to tape the entire thing on our last trip it was open. I almost didn't do it, because we were coming back in a couple of months, but I decided to go ahead. Thank goodness, because it closed just a few weeks later!

If anyone is interested, I'd be happy to burn a DVD of it for you -- just for the cost of the disc and shipping. PM me if you want one. The show is too great for you not to see it!

Count me (and our whole family) as disappointed. It was our favorite live show in any of the parks. And the car show that replaced it...what repeat value is there in that car show? While one of my brothers liked it, everyone else in our family hated it. Hot theater, huge crowds, boring stunts, horrible Herbie product placement...no rush to see that dreck again!

Oh, well...at least Voyage of the Little Mermaid is still there...

we saw it over 100 times....
we were so very sad last month when we were in MGM during our annual pilgrammage to WDW and saw the dark and empty theatre....
Hunchback was without question, one of our favorite things at MGM...right after ToT...

as for the stunt show, i totally agree......we saw it once and that was more than enough......

bring back hunchback!!!
