Does anyone recall the specifics of that pass offered a while back which i believe gave you so many days a year for up to 5 years? Is that still offered? Has anyone made use of it? What were the terms and pricing or where is that info available? Thanks for any help.

It's call the "Magical Years Pass". Here's a description from the Winter, 2000 issue of Vacation Magic:

For 4 of the next 5 years, you get 5 days per year of admission to the MK, MGM, EPCOT & AK and the ability to hop between these parks on the same day PLUS a choice of 2 other options per year. Those include PI, waterparks or WWOS.

(Essentially this is a 5 day hopper plus pass)

Price is $749 (adult or child)

You also get some additional discounts with it -
$10 off one adult admission to Disney Quest (or $5 off one child's admission), 50% off one round of mini-golf and a 10% merchandise discount at the waterparks.

We haven't used this pass, because APs work out better for us.

The only time I've seen it mentioned was in the Winter 2000 Vacation Magic. I'm not sure whether it's still offered and/or whether anyone ever bought it. ;) I haven't found anyone that posts on the DIS. Here are the details from the VM (it might still be available on the Member Site if you don't have your copy.

Give DVC a call about it (or the front desk of one of the resorts). I thought I heard that someone was told at a front desk that it was discontinued due to a lack of interest.

I was checking on it - Member services told me that no one wanted it - so it was discontinued. that what I get for waiting!

My mom bought one of those passes last winter. It was actually an odd story. She had a trip planned with me last Jabuary, so when she received the Vacation Magic guide, she called Disney to order one of the passes. The cast member told her that she could just buy the pass when she got down to Orlando from Guest Relations.

Well, when we arrived at OKW she questioned a few people about it, and they said she had to go to a park to get it. So later that day we stopped at the TTC en route to the WLV to check them out, and she tried to buy the pass there. They told us she had to buy it at the DVC resort. That is, after we finally found someone who knew what the pass was. Our next stop was over to check out the rooms at the WLV. On the way out, she stopped at the desk to find out about the pass. Once we found someone who knew what we were talking about, he looked it up and said the price was $849.00, instead of the $749 as advertised, and the price had gone up at the beginning of the year. Even though they told mom she couldn't get it over the phone and she would be able to purchase it at Disney for $749.00.

After much cajoling and discussions with several people, she did manage to get the pass for the $749.00 and has been extremely pleased with its value so far. We think they realized it was too much of a good deal, and tried to raise the price accordingly, then just decided it was too complicated of an item, and discontinued it, but I can attest that she did get one, and only paid the $749.00. Mom's been a member since I talked her into it in '93 when I was working in the College Program (gotta love that 20% cm discount!) And now, a year later I just bought some points myself through resale at the BWV, and wish I had one of those crazy passes.

Thanks,
Wayne

THose passes were never a good deal. We had several of our fiathful donate some time in doing some analysis. It turns out that hopper passes are cheaper and offer MUCH more flexibility.

They were discontinued because no one wanted them.

No one wanted them because they offered no value.

Basically I agree with Rich. I do think they had value for a select few but there were better choices out there.

If you compared the 20-day "Magical Years Pass" to three 7-day Park Hopper Plus Passes, the "Magical Years Pass" was the loser. Although the "Magical Years Pass" provided a little more for your money, the ridiculously rigid rules meant the Pass -- not you -- would determine the timing of your WDW vacations. In comparison, Park Hopper Plus Passes are highly flexible and never expire.
