Anyone remember Disney channel....

Do you miss the classic Disney Channel As Well?

  • No I think Hannah Montana should be on 24x7 - 365!

Does anyone here other than me remember when Disney channel was actually a channel for kids? I am 30 and I remember loving the old animated cartoons, looked forward to the "Disney world" short shows that came on touring Disney world, the old Walt Disney films that showed Walt talking about the parks etc. Now I can't even let my kids watch it because its so commercialized.

Its really sad that they have chosen to promote Hannah Montana over Mickey Mouse for the money.
 
I miss some of the stuff that DD and I used to watch - Ducktales, Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers, Darkwing Duck.
 
Exactly..even the old Black and White MM club..I loved that as a kid even in the 80's!
 

I miss Donald Duck Presents and Winnie the Pooh and Friends. I also miss Kids Incorporated.
My DD7 watches the Disney Channel all of the time and she is turning into a nightmare. :scared: I hate the sitcoms on there that show kids being disrespectful to adults and think they are being witty or funny by being a smart ***. I just told my DD7 this morning at the breakfast table to stop acting like she is on a sitcom or the TV is going out the door!:badpc:
 
I personally loathe the crap they play now...HM, Suite Life,etc. My kids aren't allowed to watch it after the morning cartoons unless they are playing a movie.
 
I miss it too. I have it on early when I watch my grandkids. When the sitcoms come on Disney goes off. I will not allow my DGD watch Hannah Montana and I refuse to buy her any of the products for the show. I am not looking forward to the summer when the children's programming is completely taken over with what I believe is totally inappropriate for little ones. I may get flamed but I really don't care. My DGD is 4 1/2 and the sitcoms do not show values that I had always associated with the name Disney.

I agree that maybe Disney Channel should be booted from the lineup.

There are some great shows on PBS etc that could replace them that actually teach something which is what we have gone to..

PLUS we have shut off the TV other than 30 mins a day and went to puzzles etc..but to stay on topic...most of the shows on now are the "tween" shows that have people producing them that obv. have no kids.
 
Well at 16 the Disney channel is fine, but for 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12 it isn't fine...

Find out if you can find reruns of the older stuff somewhere, on DVDs.
You already started doing the right thing by not letting your kids watch the Disney Channel.

However, Toon Disney and Playhouse Disney target that 1-5 age group.
 
From the perspective of my personal taste I don't watch TDC. From the perspective of being a Disney shareholder, Hannah Montana has been a goldmine. In fact Disney's marketing to tweens has become a juggernaut for the company. :earsboy:

Yes those shows are somewhat okay..but the CGI just isn't the same...
 
I miss Disney Inside Out and Vault Disney. Maybe they should make a Vault Disney Channel and show all the old Disney Channel stuff.

They ruined themselves just like MTV! Just where exactly is the music on the channel? :confused3 The only music show they had was TRL and that's gone now too.
 
My 2yr old loves the shows on Playhouse Disney in the morning, but they recently changed the format of that as well. Now its just contant advertising for their teeny shows. Its really annoying.

I agree on that one...the commercials stink...
 
Heck, I even miss the decent sitcoms like Even Stevens, Flash Forward and even Lyzzie McGuire. At least they had morals and decent acting.

I hardly ever turn on Disney Channel now, even for movies, because the shows are horrible and the commercials are even worse. I remember when they first starting doing commercials, but they were for Disney shows and movies, not the advertise absolutely everything...I guess thats what happens when it stops being a premium subscription channel and becomes part of cable programming.

My kids used to love the Disney channel, but even they are tired of the shows on there.
