Hi,

We planned a last minute trip to Disney and made reservations at the Sierra Suites on Palm Parkway. Has anyone stayed there recently that can give a quick review? I found a few posts already but they are older.

Thanks !

Mike

I'm bumping this up hoping that Mike has returned and will give me a review, or somebody else recently there!

Getting a $64 rate at hotelkingdom.com for August, and looking for comments, please!!

We have stayed at Sierra Suites twice (12/02 and 3/03). Both times, our room was squeaky clean and the staff could not be more pleasant and helpful. It is also a great location: driving from the hotel to the downtown disney entrance takes 5 minutes. If you want to go back in the middle of the day for a nap, this is a huge help.

As I recall, the kitchen has a stove top with 2 burners, a fullsize refrigerator, toaster, coffee maker, various pots, pans, and utensils.

Some other things we like about this hotel:
- There is a desk in the lobby where you can buy park tickets.
- The laundry is located near the front desk and requires a card key to access. I felt safe using it by myself at night.

A couple small things that might be downsides to this hotel:
- The breakfast is just OK. Coffee was very weak and pastries/cereal/bagels were nothing special. (Of course, you can get around this by using the in-room kitchen.)
- Pool is squeaky clean, but very basic. (No slides, fountains, etc.)

This is all I can remember off the top of my head. If you have other questions, I will be happy to try and answer.

Squeezing in a trip in August after being there in April for a week, so I'm trying to economize!

How far was it to the parking lots for the other parks? Did you use their shuttle or drive? I'm not familiar with 535---is there a grocery store convenient or should I head to the SuperWalmart on 192?

We knew going off-site we'd lose having a cool pool, but we'll be doing BB and TL, and maybe even Daytona one day, so it should be fine!

THANKS! Looking for more comments, please, people!

Here is what I posted in September...

Time to give back a bit to these boards. My mother and I stayed at Sierra Suites 9/11/02 through 9/21/02 (10 nights). Loved it and will go back next time. It’s located on Palm Parkway just a hop and skip from The Crossroad. We timed the commute to the parks and it ran 10 to 15 minutes. It’s more of a convention hotel. (had a pilots convention going on when we checked in) But this place was perfect for us. They have light housekeeping. We are not messy travelers and prefer not to have the sheet changed every day. The place was very clean even with the light housekeeping concept. A full cleaning was done every fourth day. The room was large with a king and a pull out queen. Kitchenette had: coffee maker with tea, coffee, sugar and creamer, toaster, micro, full sized fridge with ice maker, stove top, dish washer, garbage disposal and all the dishes, glasses, mugs silverware, pots and pans that you would need. Oh salt and pepper was also provided. It was the last hotel in this particular hotel strip, so the traffic going by the hotel was a bit less. But you have to watch out for fast moving locals' traffic along Palm Parkway when you pull out of the parking lot. That was the only negative that we could find. We had a room on the second floor facing the pool and never heard any noise from the pool. The breakfast was apples, some times bananas, muffins, some times other pastries, bagels and cream cheese, three to four cereals, two kinds of milk, three types of juice, coffee (regular and decaf) and tea. There was a WinDixe and an ABC just down the street. Better prices than at The Crossroads! Last but not least was the staff. They were pleasent, friendly and helpful with any questions and we actually had a good time talking with them. Any other questions please let me know. Oh I paid $65.95 a night.

Hi Patti,

I think it took us around 15 minutes to go from the Sierra parking lot to MK, MGM, and Epcot. (Did not visit AK.)

We rented a car both times and have not tried the shuttle. For what it's worth, it is pretty easy to drive around there. The Crossroads shopping center is right across from the Downtown Disney entrance. There are bunch of restaurants there as well as the notorious Goodings supermarket. (I'm ashamed to admit we paid their exorbitant prices, but we didn't feel like driving around looking for someplace cheaper.)

I thought of a couple of other things I liked about SS:
- Room has two windows which can be opened and locked closed. Windows also have screens.
- Beds are in kind of an alcove and it is easy to push one of them against the wall. (My DS is a wiggly sleeper who tends to roll out of bed, so this is was a plus for us.)

Hoping for some more reviews!

If the codes are awesome, we will hopefully grab a moderate at $74, but if not we will book Sierra Suites through hotelkingdom.com for $63+ per night.

Sounds wonderful, and the references to Crossroads really helps me figure out where it is located---none of the maps I've found have been very helpful!
