Anyone port a verizon cell no. to tracfone?

I could really save some money by changing my cell phone service from verizon wireless to tracfone.

Has anyone switched from verizon wireless to tracfone, and carried over their verizon cell phone number to their tracfone? I checked the tracfone website, but I don't understand the process fully.

I would purchase my tracfone locally, but then would I activate the tracfone (one of tracfone's cell numbers would be assigned), then ask for the port from verizon wireless? Or would I ask tracfone about porting the verizon number, before activating the tracfone? I would be so grateful for advice from someone who has been through this process before.

I would like to know this too-we are thinking of switching from Verizon to something else when our plan runs out. I was thinking it would be cheaper to go back to a tracphone or a prepaid plan. The only thing is that it seems like Verizon is the only carrier in our area with a "good" signal.

Unfortunatly I don't know if you can keep the same number,but I just wanted to let you know there are cheaper prepaids than tracphone.I had one and I didn't like it at all.Too expensive,and I lost service often.Friends have had the same bad experience.This was a few years ago,though,so things may have changed.I have a Virgin Mobile(which is on the Sprint PCS network) and I pay $0.10 a minute all the time,there is a $0.35 charge once a day(not per minute) in addition to the per minute rate,or you can choose a flat $0.25 a minute rate.You have to put more money on at least once every 90 days.There are also other new phones,not sure of the brand,but are $0.10 a minute all the time.HTH!

I went from Cellular-One to Tracfone and kept my number. As a matter of fact I got 100 free minutes for doing so. I'm pretty sure we set the trac-fone up online and it gave the option to switch the number.

I bought a new Tracfone and could not even switch myold Tracfone # had to get a new one with the phone, so I doubt you could use the old number. Unless things have changed, it's been almost a year.

I ported in an old AT&T phone. First I had to set up the tracfone like normal getting a new number. Then I called tracfone to port it in. They did all the work. The problem was that they immediately turned off my old phone, but the new one wasn't good for about a week. I just borrowed my daughter's for a week. It was a bit of a pain, but 100 minutes was good and I loved my old phone number.

We just switched from AT&T prepaid (used to be a deal, but no more) so I could not believe it but my dear husband did the research and found that Virgin prepaid was the best deal (for us).

We have Alltel on one cell phone-which is a fabulous deal (you must make 1 call a month otherwise it is $4 a month-but if you make 1 call, it cost .35 for the whole month (we obviously do not use our cell phones except in emergency)).

Anyway, with Virgin (which we had to find a cell that would work in FL of course! WDW and all (I am not THAT frugal!) the phone cost $29.99, no activation fee. We chose the 'minute 2 minute' plan which is $19.99 for 90 days. It is .35 a minute for the first 10 and .10 thereafter for that 24 hour period. If you put it on your CC to automatically deduct it at the 90 day period, you get $20 worth of calls for $15 and I believe they do roll over.
So it cost $5 a month for no roaming and free long distance. I thought my husband did a great job!
