Anyone play around with Google Earth?

I'm wondering about this. Heard all kinds of things, from how useful it is when planning a trip, to how dangerous it is for predators to be able to see where you (and your children) live.

Anyone use this? What do you think about it? Is it easy to use/move around? Are you worried about Big Brother? :confused3

I have used it before. I found it really cool, But I guess it is a little creepy for anyone around the world to be able to see where you live.

We have used it to see the house we currently live in, our old house and I also used it to look at the house I lived in back in the 1970's in Wa state. It was also neat to do a sort of "tour" in that town. Have not been there in over 25 years. Wow, have things changed, but the cool thing is I moved away when I was 10 and many things are still the same and my sense of direction was pretty good after all these years.

I used it just last night to see the apartment house I grew up in in the 1950's-1960's It was neat to actually "walk" the same blocks to school that I did in 1st grade.

WIth the house in Washington, my "tour" from my house to my school was sad. In the center of my HUGE neighborhood was a gigantic undeveloped area that we called the trails. The kids on the backside of the development used this area as a short cut to get to school. We all rode our bikes. One day a hot air balloon used this area to land. It was a huge attraction for the neighborhood kids. I found out that undeveloped area now has houses and our trails are all gone. :sad2: On the other hand, looking at just how long the daily bike ride to and from school would have been for us without using that short cut. WOW. They did not have buses for our development and I know it was well over a mile from my house to the school.

My DS loved playing around with it when I took him to work with me this summer. I was able to show him all kinds of places I have traveled to and that he has been to also. One of the guys I work with saw what he was doing and showed us his hometown area. It's so cool!!

From a technological perspective, it's a wonderment, a marvel ...
It's been around a long time, I hope you know that - years, at least. It was designed as an app called Keyhole, and it was available online for free prior to Google buying it.

Before I started overdramatically torturing myself with worry over predators finding my house with Google Earth, I'd focus on the confidence level in my kid. Confident kids are rarely victimized. And overly-paranoid moms rarely raise confident kids - they raise fearful, sheltered kids.

It shows my house as the nextdoor neighbors.

I've used it but I think Local.live.com is easy as well and gets a bit closer in some areas.

Does this one give more recent pictures? Google Earth doesn't show my friend's fence, which I think went in almost a year ago....

It depends some yes some no

Take SSR in regular view they show the old outdoor theater then Birdseye it has the pool area. Cindabration going on at MK so thats current.

It all depends on the location and when the satilite pictures are updated and passing that area.

Nothing to download just go on and look around.
