Anyone pack bottled water in luggage?

Just wondering if this has been done successfully. I was thinking if I could pack 8 or 10 bottles in one of our suitcases (checked ones of course), then on the way home that suitcase would have some extra room for souveniers. Maybe it would weigh too much? I look forward to anyone's experience with this. Thanks! :)

I've done it several times. I double-bagged them in Ziplocs and put them in our suitcases. I never had a problem with leaking, and we made sure to weigh our bags beforehand so they weren't over the limits.

HTH!

I have done it. What I did was wrap the water in bubble wrap then when you come home use that same bubble wrap to protect souvenirs you have boughts.
But you know you can get a case of water for $3.00 all you have to do is that the bus to downtown disney and get off at the 2nd stop for downtown disney . Right across the stress is a Hess gas station they sell cheap water and pop or anything you might need. Just take a duffle bag with you to carry the pop in.

You can also get free cups of ice water at every counter service restaurant, even without a purchase. This will save you the hassle of lugging the water in the parks. I buy drink mix ins to add flavor.
We ordered water from Staples. I have a teacher's reward card and the delivery is free. We have also ordered from garden grocer and added water to the order.

it doesn't help you get extra space in your luggage for the trip home, but it is pretty easy and inexpensive to have a case or two of water shipped to your resort from costco or staples.

I was not aware of the Hess gas station near DD...I am very glad to know that!

How do you get a teacher's reward card for Staples? If that allows free shipping, I would like to do that for future trips (too late for this one, leaving in 4 days). I am a school counselor, I would imagine I would qualify, maybe?

Also, we are ordering from Garden Grocer for the second half of our trip when we get to the Poly...for the first few days we are near DD and I think I will just pack 8-10 bottles in our luggage. Thanks for everyone's advice!

;)

I just read a trip report where they used their refillable mugs for drinks and got bottled water for the drink on their DDP, then took the water into the parks. What a great idea - that's my plan when we go in August. Here's a little off-topic question - are the refillable mugs still resort specific?

Every staples has a card for you to fill out for the rewards card. It is free and all you will need is your school ID. I would think you would qualify! Have a great trip!

but then wouldnt the refillable mugs cost you way more than it would have cost you to just buy a case of water? and that would only work if you ate only in resort, or maybe just in your resort.

i would just make sure you weigh it to make sure you dont go over the weight limit. we always stop at a target when we are there to buy bottled water so ive never had to bring it.

ive read many times about the getting a cup of ice at a cs restaurant but ive always wondered how time efficient that would be. youd still have to wait in line, right?

Actually, we use refillable mugs alot - pop and coffee and hot chocolate and more pop, so we do get our $$$ worth out of them. I'm thinking we do a counter service breakfast in the am and take the water bottles into the park that day. We don't really need enough stuff to order from Garden Grocer, and never rent a car so driving anywhere is out. Perhaps the bus to DTD to hit the Hess Station is an option, but I'm liking the refillable mug thing.

We bought our plane tickets in January, so just got in under the bag charges at United - we should be able to check 2 bags apiece free - so packing a few water bottles is probably a good idea for us, too.

Yes the Hess station is great. Its a great store for picking up almost anything. They have a great hot food section. We usually go there and get either a slice of hot pizza or hot dog, nacho's cheese and chips a drink and then eat in outside. Then go in and buy our water and pop supply put them in our dufffle bag. Walla cheap meal! And wonderful capachino's.

I have! Be careful though they are starting to charge for how much each bag weights. Sometimes I also just ship it to my hotel room.

For us, 2 adults, we pack regularly our one checked bag and then stuff it with bottled water. I fit nearly 24 bottles b/w the two bags! I didnt wrap them and they were fine. I put the bag on our scale to make sure it didnt go over the 50lb limit, we were a bit under actually!

We didnt use this water for the parks, it was just to have 1 at night in our resort and one in the morning. We got a bucket of ice and put a few bottle in it.

At the parks, we buy a few waters OOP.

Even cheaper that the grocery delivery service is to order bottled water from Costco. $6.97 for a 24-pack of water with free shipping ($7.32 if you aren't a Costco member).

I'm not a Costco member, and including shipping and FL sales tax i'm only paying $7.80 including shipping for 24 bottles.

Usually you don't have to wait in line - you can walk up to the counter where the CM is preparing the drinks, and ask for a cup of water. Or go to the area where you pick up your order (not where you wait in line to place your order) to ask for a cup of water.

I carry a refillable water bottle and just fill my bottle with CS ice water. You don't have to carry around multiple bottles of water that way, or stash the extras in a locker at the parks (what a hassle!).
