To sum it all up - one shouldn't put beer in check baggage because:
1. Beer is heavy. Fees for exceeding the 50lbs allowance per bag are VERY HIGH and it will be easy to go over.
2. Beer in bag will increases the likelihood the TSA will hand open your bag to see what is really there.
3. Beer in bag will also increase the likelihood of the theft of the beer and anything else that looks valuable once the bag is opened. Good luck getting the TSA or airline to reimburse you!
4. Baggage compartment may not be pressurized or if it is, it may lose pressure during the flight and your beer will explode, soaking whatever else you packed in the bag, and depending on the bag, it may soak other people's stuff, too. Selfish people will not care about the latter, though.
5. You can buy most brands of beer in Florida after you arrive.
FWIW, I personally feel the same way about soda or any other beverage with the possible exception of bottled water, although again, bottled water is also available in Florida.
