Anyone pack beer in checked luggage?

To sum it all up - one shouldn't put beer in check baggage because:

1. Beer is heavy. Fees for exceeding the 50lbs allowance per bag are VERY HIGH and it will be easy to go over.

2. Beer in bag will increases the likelihood the TSA will hand open your bag to see what is really there.

3. Beer in bag will also increase the likelihood of the theft of the beer and anything else that looks valuable once the bag is opened. Good luck getting the TSA or airline to reimburse you!

4. Baggage compartment may not be pressurized or if it is, it may lose pressure during the flight and your beer will explode, soaking whatever else you packed in the bag, and depending on the bag, it may soak other people's stuff, too. Selfish people will not care about the latter, though.

5. You can buy most brands of beer in Florida after you arrive. :teeth:

FWIW, I personally feel the same way about soda or any other beverage with the possible exception of bottled water, although again, bottled water is also available in Florida. :teeth:

I know it sounds nit picky, and water does dry, but after seeing that your clothing can get wet when something does leak (or explode) first hand, I would not even pack water. I would not want to open my suitcase up to wet clothing..I wouldn't want to spend my first day or night at a resort laundry mat doing clothes :scared1:
..... and as you said, would not want to get other peoples items wet either.. suitcases are not built as they were years ago.. ;)

Only if it was something REALLY special that could not be delivered locally. The way to safely pack pressurized liquids is to tape the lids with strapping tape, pack the bottles inside socks, then strap the bundle together, put it in a sealed bag, put the bag inside a thick bundle of absorbent towels, then put THAT bundle inside another heavy sealed bag. That way the towels will absorb any liquid that leaks.

Although everyone does make a good case as to why you should not pack beer in your suitcase, it is not against the TSA rules. Common sense, bubble wrap and zip lock bags should do the trick.

Thank you all for your quick replies! I am just going to go with getting it delivered to the room. So much easier, and less to worry about. Not to mention, we give enough money to the TSA when we travel, and I'm certainly not going give a donation to the baggage handler's game of peer pong!:drinking1

Thank you all so much for your help! I can always rely on the DIS boards!
If that won't work out for you, the Hess station mentioned upthread has reasonably priced beer and snacks. There is one near Downtown Disney and another near the Boardwalk Resort.

I packed rum in a Rum Runner flask (http://www.rumrunnerflasks.com/) on my last trip and double ziplocked it. It was fine!
