I was thinking on getting this for my four yr old son who is really into trains. I was wondering if anyone owned the basic set with no add ons and could tell me what size area I would need to put this on. He has a block table with a flat side to it that flips over so I wanted to put the train on this. So if anyone could give me the dimensions I would appreciate it. and also any pros or cons to this toy I would love to hear. TIA Dawn

I'd also be interested to know. DS4 asks for this everytime he sees it on TV or in the store. He's really into trains also, but we already have quite a bit of the Brio train stuff. I'm hesitant to bring yet ANOTHER train set into the house.

New to this train stuff what is the Brio? is that Thomas the Train? he has the Thomas the Train set from Target the die cast kind with the portable mountain that opens up and the trains go around it and he really likes it alot. He loves the big Thomas the Train set that is up and running at Toys r us but I know I dont have the room for that and it costs alot of money.

This set is by Fisher Price and is a lot cheaper than Tomas.

As far as the dimensions go, I am not really sure. You can set ti up different ways, so it could vary. Try to call Fisher-Price as they might have the info for you.

Brio is the wooden train track. The wooden Thomas the Tank Engine track and trains can be used with the Brio system, but the Thomas stuff at Target is not the same thing.
The Brio stuff is expensive! We started getting it when our oldest DD was 3. She was totally into trains, so it was a good thing for grandparents to buy her for birthdays and Christmas. DS inherited it from her. We add stuff to it at Christmas mostly. He's also got alot of wooden road for cars that fits in with the Brio track and a big wooden parking garage. That stuff takes over my living room quite often, so I really don't want to get him another train set. But, whenever we ask him what he wants for Christmas, the Geotrax is all he talks about.

We have it! I'm trying to think how big of an area the basic set takes up... I'd really just be guessing at this point, so I'll have to set it up and see for myself, and let you know.

As far as the toy itself, it is really great! My boys (ages 5, 3 and 8 months) all enjoy it. I can't think of any cons actually! Oh wait, I just did, it seems to go through the batteries a lot. LOL My boys use theirs a lot though so that would be why. ;) We have the basic set plus the other 3 remote sets that fit into the main control holder. And then we have a few extra "trains" and track sets. They have the elevated ones now which we will probably be buying the boys for xmas! :)

I'll try to set it up in the next day...

The basic set fits on our "Brio" table.....unfortunately, have no idea of how big that is...2x3????

DD loves her Brio-knockoff trains, but did not get into her Geo Trax at all. She didn't like the remote controller. She used it maybe two time, then it got locked into her toybox. I recently gave it to our next door neighbor who's a bit down on her luck. I had bought all the accessories and everything.

We have the basic set, fire station and the construction mountain thingy all set up on a train table too. We played with the layout for a bit and it all fits very nice. We'll probably add some of the new pieces for christmas.
