Anyone own an unconventional top-load washer?

My current washer, which I loved, is getting ready to go to appliance heaven. Which means I need a new one. A front-loader is out of the question.

Do any of you own the top-loaders that don't have an actual agitator? How the heck do they move the clothes without an agitator? Would you recommend these types of washers?

My co-worker's mother has one and she hates it. Says the clothes come out knotted up often.

I have a Whirlpool Cabrio, it's a top loading HE washing machine, and I love it. We've had it for 4 years now, and have only had 1 issue with it, which was covered by the warranty!

I have the GE Profiles. Yea the clothes are somewhat twisty but I have never had problems with my clothes getting torn up like a machine with an agitator.

I can wash comforters, bras, etc and they have all been fine.

I am so glad I never got a front loader. We have moved twice since buying them. The front loaders are just too large for my laundry rooms.

I did have an issue with the dryer for several yrs. It finally got fixed under warranty a few months ago.

We don't have the space for the front-loaders either. But I don't think I'd buy them even if we did have the space. I've heard so many complaints. My mother has a Maytag set and is, again, having problems. I'd rather get a good, old-fashioned, top-loader and keep it for the next 10 years until they can get all the kinks out of the front-loaders, then maybe....

I don't know that the conventional top loaders are available new anymore. I thought by now the high efficiency models were mandated.

When we bought our new front loader about 2-3 years ago we did a lot of research and Consumer Reports reported that the high efficiency top loaders were very hard on the fabrics. We've been very happy w/ our Whirlpool front loader.

I have a top loader, refused to pay the price for the front loading machines (mandate front loading, please say this is not so). But mine has an agitator, but it is very efficient. It is a Fisher Paykel.

I just got a new HE top loader a couple months ago, I love it, its a GE, the basket is huge, and the clothes come out just fine, the only time I noticed them twisted is when I put several pairs of pants, sweatpants etc in together...........the machine uses way less water, and I can put way more clothes in for a load than in my old washer.

You can always try and get a used top-loader from someone on Craig's list who has upgraded to a front-loading.

I have a toploader Maytag "Bravos". I love it. But I do see the twisty more than with my previous 15 year-old Kenmore. My observations are that after the load is finished, they are less wet and now takes less time to dry. Also, I don't know how but if we wash sheets, blankets, etc., at the end of the cycle, one of them is wrapped over the rest of load like a dome. (I wish I got the one with the transparent lid so I could watch the load!)

Other things to consider - our Bravos is a Tier 3, Energy Star rated appliance which qualifies for a tax credit and it also qualifies for a rebate program from our water utility company.

I got a Maytag Bravo, last month. I love it. My clothes seem a lot cleane now. I know what you mean about the dome thing. When I was sheets, one always goes over the whole load like a dome.

I have a Sears Kenmore large capacity. I've had to have Sears come out at least 5 times now to remove change caught in the bottom and also leaks out the front of the machine.
It cleans well, but I prefer a front loader and will be going back to one soon.
