My 19 year old DD is a college student and has 3 weddings to go to this summer. Since she will be with the same people for the weddings she really doesn't want to wear the same dress to all 3. With her tight student budget she was thinking she would like to buy a convertible dress like the Victoria Secret Convertible Dress (not the rouched one, the flirty one). She thought with a change in the strap and a necklace change it would look like 3 different dresses. Anyone own this dress? Does it fit true to size? She is a 5-7 and was going to buy a small. She will be buying from Ebay so there are no returns.....would love some feedback if anyone owns this dress.

I'm guessing that no one has this dress which prob isnt a good sign...lol

I asked my daughter and she did not have a lot of positive things to say about it. Her thoughts: its better on tall people. The looks are a little hard to achieve. The fabric is cheap and the colors not true to the website. To her it did not look like different dresses and she would not wear it with the same group of people.

I'd tell your daughter to seek out the local Goodwill, second-hand or consignment shops in her area. That way she can try on the dresses to see if they look good on her and she won't pay a bundle.

Another way to go is to spend the money on a classic black dress (or any solid color) and spice it up with scarves, blouses or jackets.

I thought about buying it, but honestly it looked too darn confusing to me-although I almost strangled myself in one of their tankini's a few years ago, so it might just be me.

Does she have any friends around the same size she can borrow from ? You can always spice up a somewhat plain dress with jewelry.

I have this dress in a few different colors. Tell your daughter to enter "convertible dress" in the search on ebay, and it will bring up a few other brands as well as the VS model. I love this dress-it packs really well (no wrinkles!), and once you get the hang of it is easy to tie in the different styles. The fabric is thin enough that a bra is necessary, so for the backless styles I use the self adhesive bra cups-I found mine @ Joanne's Fabrics.

Thanks for the feedback. DD is going to prob get it from ebay and then go from there with jewelry etc. Thanks for the info!!

This dress is featured on the wedding channel. My cousin had purchased these dresses - not from VS but from a dress maker in NYC for her girls for her wedding. I can't wait to see them.

I thought the same.

I've never heard "convertible dress" before. Why does it sound like one you can put the top down on?:rotfl:

Well you sort of can take the top down.....lol ;) I think it looks like a confusing dress. Someone told me it come with instructions.!

If her goal is to not have people say "Oh, you're wearing that blue dress again," I doubt a convertible dress is the answer. It's going to look like the same dress to the casual observer. I'd hit the consignment stores - she can probably buy three nice dresses for the same price (or even two dresses - would it be so bad to wear the same dress to the first and last weddings?)
