The current poll results are about where I am.... almost even across the board :confused3

In the long run whatever I select going to be better than what I have now but with the $ difference it's a hard decision ;)

i love my macbook pro! it's 2.5 years old and recently rebuilt (logic board and super drive died). i've never owned a pc, just macs, dating back the the apple II e!

use to have an ibook g4 and loved that machine, then it died. but it's back to working after a visit to the apple store. it's so well loved that 4 of the keys fell off and can't be replaced.

apple care is also a great investment. if it weren't for the apple care, my completely rebuilt macbook pro would have cost $310!

I also have a MacBook Pro 17". I love it but had to wait a long time to get it. They delayed the shipping several times. The only complaint I have is that the battery seems to be highly overrated. I only get about 2 hours out of it and it is rated as an 8 hour.
On the positive side, I love the big screen and I also like the glossy screen, even though some people seem to not want the glossy. It is great for viewing photos. I now shoot my photos in wide screen format.

Switched to apple about 4.5 years ago after I got sick of my PC crashing. The apple has never crashed.

Just got a new MacBook Pro 13" and it is incredible. If you have a lot of pics, go with the Pro for sure because you'll want the extra power!

I am considering the MacBook 13" but I have heard rumors there will be a new release of it sometime later this year. I wish I knew when!

I'm definitely getting this with whatever model I purchase - worth the extra $300 to have the peace of mind - especially as this is my first Mac ;)

2hrs wow that's what I get now with an old laptop. Portability is a factor so I don't want to go over 15"... I'm just not sure if 13" or 15"... Wish I lived near an Apple store.

I'm read something similar - but then I waited 7 mnths for the current refresh so who knows :rolleyes1

First off, I learned on a Mac and we've always had a Mac at home. So, there no question of where to go once the need for a laptop arrived.

I bought my first MacBook Pro last Sunday. When I learned (from this thread, I believe) that they recently changed the pricings and offerings, I sped right back to my Apple store and asked what's up.

Because I am within their time-period for exchanges, they allowed me to upgrade from the 13" 2gb to the 4 gb (plus the better battery) for a restocking fee of $117. I think they were pretty generous. My other option was to take a $100 refund and keep the same MacBook. I didn't want to shoot out of the gate with a product that had been made obsolete (my words) in seven days, so I upgraded. I'd rather wait four months to go obsolete! :cutie:

Plus, with a dingbat such as myself when it comes to technical issues, the people at Apple put up with my inane questions and actually explain things to me on my level and then to my husband at his level. The comfort is just there for us.

Anyone buy a Macbook and wish they'd sprung for the MB Pro :confused3

I went in thinking I wanted the MacBook, but the SD slot sold the Pro to me. The staff at Apple were great. They asked me what I was using it for, how likely would I be to updrade in the future, and how fast I liked playing FarmVille :lmao: . I never felt oversold even though I walked out with the higher priced item. It just seemed to better suit my needs overall.

I have a 15inch MacBook Pro.
I would recommend it over the regular MacBook any day. I think the advantages (longer battery life, faster processor, not plastic, SD slot, etc) outweigh the prices difference.
I've worked on all three sized screens (13, 15, and 17). Too me 17 was too big. I was looking at too much. 13 wasn't big enough and I felt like everything was squished in. 15 was perfect. I do a lot of photo and some video editing, a lot of online use, a lot of school use too. It's the perfect screen size for me.
The battery on mine has lasted me nearly 8 hours when I'm just messing around online or editing away from my desk.
In short, I love my laptop. :)

I am definitely surprised. I figured the brand new MBP (out last week) would have got the most votes but instead of the least. I'm guessing most don't think the 2" and extra specs are worth the min additional $600???

I have the SD slot in my current HP laptop and use it alot so that could be a deciding factor to get on of the Pro lineup.

The price difference between the models is quite a bit which is what's making the decision difficult.

If I'll notice the difference I'm ready to spend the money but if I won't then I definitely don't mind the less expensive route.

Found a Best Buy 2hrs away that has Apple products on display :cool1:

I think I need to see the 13" and 15" screens to see if the extra realestate seems worth it the extra $$$.

If you aren't planning on taking your MacBook outside, you really don't need to go with the matte screen. But, if you have eye issues and think the glossy screen will bother you, then definitely get the matte screen.

I have a 2.5 year old MacBook 13" and DD has an almost year old MacBook Pro 15". Apple Care has been a life saver for both of us. My HD died last September and DD's died this past Sunday. Apple replaced both without blinking an eye. DD's was replaced while we waited at the Apple store this weekend. I love being able to call Apple Care on the phone and get someone based in the US that has a strong command of the english language.

Mac or PC - I cannot recommend a back-up drive enough! I did not have one last fall and I lost some stuff. I bought one for DD at that time, and she had just backed up about a week before her HD crashed and she didn't lose too much. So, definitely spend a few extra dollars and pick up an external back-up drive!

After a trip to Best Buy this weekend I finally made a decision :goodvibes

I just ordered a 13" MacBook Pro with a few upgrades so the price listed in the poll is a bit low..... Can't wait :woohoo:

Thank you all for the opinions :goodvibes

Minnie - get Apple Care as soon as you get your MacBook! I promise it's totally worth it, and you can call them when you have any questions about how to work something on your MacBook, in addition to the technical support and repair stuff for 3 years.

Oh wow...you're just gonna love it!!
