Just wonderin' if any of my fellow diser's are happy ferret owners like me :goodvibes

No, but I've always wanted one. My parents were super against it when I was a kid, and now I'm afraid that my cat would get it.

I owned three really special boys for about 4 years, until I began to have allergic reactions every time I touched them. :( I ended up having to give them to someone else who is a ferret veteran, and I miss them so much... but I was even getting to the point of not being able to breathe if I was around them for too long... really hard to do in this one bedroom apartment! I'm not sure why I don't have the same reaction to the cat :confused3

Here's Scooter, the oldest:

Gosh I miss them!

I have two, Pudge and Jasper. Both were adopted from a rescue.

Pudge is the darker one looking annoyed at having her photo taken--you can see how she got her name. Jasper is the white one who likes to beg.

They're great pets, independent yet sociable and love to interact with their humans. :) They work well with my lifestyle.

I had two back in the 1990s. Grover (Male) and Sammie (Female) They were both very sweet. A little hyper, and always comical. I miss them.

My friend had one, and it would steal things and hide them all over her house... :lmao:

The joys of owning a ferret! I had one years ago who only stole white socks and gloves.

DS11 has two... Streak & Princess... they are the sweetest :goodvibes

I just inherited one with my new step kids (recently married) it seems sweet enough and all and generally a good pet, but awefully smelly. Does anyone know if its ok to bath these things? Or is the odor just their natural musk that they give off making baths not worth it?

Don't bathe them--that will make it worse.

Make sure you are feeding a high quality food--I suggest Totally Ferret, 8&1 Ultimate, or The Ferret Store food. If it smells bad going in, it will smell worse coming out. I use a combination of the above three mixed together and toss in a little Iams kitten as a treat.

Make sure that you wash their sleep sacks, play mats, tents, hammocks, etc. every week. Those absorb the ferrets natural oils, and if the bedding is kept clean the ferret will keep itself clean.

If that doesn't help, take the ferret to the vet, it could be an indication of adrenal disease or a yeast infection in the ears.
